You might be able to fight legally on medical necessity. For example if you had a CPAP and the HOA tries to fine the generator "keeping you alive", that's a problem.

Mine is trash. NOT REFURBISHED, looks HEAVILY USED. Oil leaking in box and scratches and scuffs all over outside of generator with sun faded labels. Looks heavily used or left outside for a long period

Contacted the seller and they were very dismissive. Just said to issue eBay Return. The item weighs almost 100lbs in packaging. They want me to load into my car, drive to a UPS, unload from my car, take my hand truck to get into UPS store for what? A refund of what I paid?

They know 100% they never inspected the item, sent an item that did NOT match their description and was NOT refurbished but instead USED (and / or returned after used and never inspected). This seller should not be trusted and buy definitely at your own risk

I do not think all of the effort to return is anywhere worth us being EVEN. And the seller knows this too which is why they DARE you to do the return process

Very similar experience and the customer service response was very telling. Basically daring me to take the time, effort, and breaking my back to return it. For what? To get my original money back? Needs to be a penalty to fraudulent sellers like this. They know these aren't refurbs and they know they don't match their description

Something like this vs the solar/lithium/inverter setup I ended up doing for my recently acquired first ever little trailer. I spent $2300 on a 3000W inverter, 300Ah (3840Wh) of Lifepo4 batts, and 600W of rooftop solar. And that easily could have been $4k had I not done all the work myself with carefully chosen parts for cost reduction. Noiseless, fuel-less, and stealth camping. Not sure which is better ultimately, though. I can get about 3 hours run time in bright sun of my A/C. The gen would allow nearly endless A/C. So for a hot camp out, gen wins hands down.

FWIW, saying 300AH of battery without specifying voltage doesn't tell us anything about your actual capacity - watt hours says more (e.g. my Delta 2 is ~1kWh and my bigger battery/inverter is a ~5kWh)...

At any rate - having an inverter/battery setup you can occasionally top off with a generator is the way to go, IMO. It got me through my recent 2+ day outage, and while my neighbors' generators never stopped... it was nice to not have to have mine running overnight.

Also - why is this marked expired now? It's still in stock and this coupon is still active...

Same, Lansing, MI also checking in! Bought the Predator 3500 on 8/25/23 for $593 out the door and returned it today. Picked up the 4000w Firman for $340. Saved $250 and got a little better specs. Slick deal!

Lmao, we are neighbors. I live in lansing and is why I'm also here looking for a generator 🤣
I live a little East and luckily fared very well (yet somehow only a few miles from the actual tornado). I don't even think I had a stick in my yard. But other times I haven't been that lucky, so that prompted me to start working ahead of the issue. I was in Grand Ledge on Saturday and it looked like a war zone, still had trees down across entire roads, trampolines wrapped around fences, you could hear generators running everywhere, etc.

There's no 'cheap' option. You should reach out to local electricians (who know your local code) and ask for quotes to install either a manual transfer switch or a subpanel that's set up with a generator interlock; either way, the idea is that you can only power the circuits with either grid power or generator power, never both. Expect this to be anywhere from $300-1500+ depending how your current electrical panel is set up and what all needs to be done.

The only cheap option is buying a couple heavy duty extension cords with splitters on the end and running them inside to plug in things as needed.
Can you recommend some good heavy duty extension cords?

Thanks

Lol a CPAP is not life support.
CPAP is a medically prescribed device. No HOA can stand between you and a prescription. I do agree the HOA can put reasonable restrictions in place, but in an emergency situation, an HOA can't do a thing and any attempt to punish someone from following a prescription could result in SEROUS liabilities including punitive damages. I am personally familiar with an HOA in GA that specifically prevented generators who settled a case involving a diabetic and generator. To be honest HOA laws apply to normal activities, in times of emergencies such policies are largely unenforceable. For example your HOA might have noise restrictions which a fire alarm might violate. No one suggested that a CPAP is life saving but it is medically necessary if prescribed. RIP any HOA budget that simply tries to interfere with a persons prescription.

Costco frequently has great extension cords at good prices. Around xmas they tend to have ones with 3 outlets at the end. I use this for my kitchen and 2nd one for the garage freezers/fridge.

I think i bought them on sale for like $40 in Costco. 10 gauge would be better for high powered kitchen appliances or using an electric heater long term but this has a circuit breaker built in (cheap but better than nothing). Don't ignore the possibility of overloading a cord and causing a fire.

You mean the gas?
You need to add engine oil first or you will destroy the generator...

Hey, thanks for the link. I will look in my local Costco to see if they sell it in the store. I remember seeing a two pack of heavy-duty extension cords there last week. I want these to be able to run two refrigerators and other stuff.

Main thing to watch out for is that it's 12 AWG.. here's a 50ft one with 3 receptacles on the end: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGI.../203736191

L5-30 (or RV plug) to NEMA 5-15/5-20 (standard 120V receptacles) cables exist too, but they're generally going to be more expensive.

This is always a great deal if you or a friend has a membership. They used to be $50 but still a deal at $60 if you need to go some distance.

https://www.samsclub.com/p/exteni...oduct_3

depending on your use this is a nice setup to utilize the 30a plug and get a 4 outlet box, with a built in circuit breaker on a 10g cable. If you are running any heavy equipment.

Edit- looks like you would need an adapter for the firman plus and the 4000w generator. Didn't realize that.

I almost bought this but went for the Firman wh03242 4000 watt duel fuel with electric start inverter generator for $320
Yeah that was my choice. Paid a little more for convenience and additional functionality.
