Looks like this is the low end of the new qled lineup for TCL. Q6 has no local dimming, similar to Samsung Q60 series. You have to step up to the Q7 which is $699 for a 65-in to get local dimming. Even the Q7 series gets only a 7.2 for sports on rtings.com. This Q6 is a 60hz panel for anyone interested.

I can't find a review by rtings on this Q6 model, they may not have reviewed it yet. Here is the link I found https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews...q650g-qled

Q7 was reviewed but costs more and maybe worth it for some.

The Q6 is worse than the s555 I got earlier this year for a similar price. Q6 has no local dimming as was mentioned before.

The Q8 is really the successor to the 6 series.
QM8 > 6 series > Q70 > 5 series > Q60

How do these compare to tcl635?
TCL 635 is better than all of them becaise ot has local dimming and a 120hz panel, but it is a 2020 model. I would opt for a 2021 6 series 646 or 2022 model like the s655 instead which are both mini LED.

The 2021 non-roku model was a bust because non-roku (i.e, the 2021 version of google tv) caused software issues. the 2022 is not available at similar prices. costco has the 635 under $600, and it's the (2020) roku model. That's why I felt it was comparable to the ones we're looking at here. But I'm honestly starting to look at maybe a 48" OLED. I'm just not super happy with my current 55" LG OLED because it developed burn in.

I have two Sony 48" OLED but they're just used for home theater in bedroom setups. I'm not a gamer.

They're great TV's, beautiful picture.

u6K looks better to me since it has local dimming.

I got this about 3 months ago. It was a massive step up from a TCL 5 series from about 4 years ago. Was fairly cheap too. The OS is snappy. It's a room with a lot of different lighting possibilities and it's bright enough for all of them EXCEPT light sources pointed directly at it. I've been really happy with it personally. I watch TV and movies mostly. But looks good with sports and cartoons.

Get an old Pioneer Plasma, better than anything out there for motion.

Very useful to know from front page: QM8 > 6 series > Q70 > 5 series > Q60
thanks!

This tcl 6 is not like previous years flagship 6 series. So this is an upgrade over tcl 5 from a few years ago, but may be worse than many TCL 6 series from the past 4 years 2022,21,20,and even 19, due to many image differences like peak brightness not being as good, and lack of local dimming zones. Rtings gives a good score rating to keep things in perspective.
...confusing to old tcl 6 owners. So tcl QM8 is the way to look this year for an upgrade over previous years tcl 6 series.

Thanks for this info. I'm looking at replacing my TCL 6 series from a few years back due to it panic powering off more frequently. I don't know if the hardware can't handle the new Roku updates or what's going on but it's getting more and more annoying. The picture on it is still excellent though

Lately My TCL 6 from 2019 model 625 is getting laggy and rebooting if I push buttons too quickly in some apps. Maybe it's because I have a bunch of apps installed (about 35+). So definitely something's up with roku player stability. But not so horrible that I need to upgrade it yet...

you can also buy an external Roku streaming device if the picture is still fine on this TV

After walking through the local best buy, I bought a Q7 75" for my rec room and a Q6" 65" for my Barn/garage. These are bright, sharp, and an absolute value for the money. Both together cost less than a single 75" M8. They looked at least equivalent to the Samsung Q60C (also a 60Hz panel).

The rtings reviews on viewing angle were completely BS.

Agreed! I had a 50 inch in my sons room. It also serves as a nice heater. Smilie
