One year ago March this was $273.96 w/tax ....so to me it's relevant and a deal worth noting.

They wouldn't do it for me because it's a coupon, apparently that's isn't covered under their price match policy. Fine best buy, don't take my money

Me being lazy but due to statfields imminent release wanting to upgrade my desktop on the cheap, how does this compare to say the samsung 990 that I saw here the other day? I have a 500GB samsung sata SSD boot drive now that it is pretty full (along with several spinning disks for data).
If your system has an NVME slot, utilize it. Any NVME is faster than SATA3.

Having a motherboard without NVME might be a short indicator that it's time for an upgrade.

But, if that isn't in the cards right now, I would work toward getting that boot drive cleaned up. A full SSD is an unhappy SSD, as it uses the free space to perform maintenance.

Post your full specs, I might be able to give further recommendations, but it kinda sounds like you're due for a full system upgrade.

Although the 990 is technically better, there's not a big difference in performance between the two drives. I doubt that you would be able tell the difference.

If you don't have PCIe 4 or higher, then it really doesn't make a difference.

I wouldn't trust the advice of someone who thinks that NVME is a slot

Okay, not in the market for one at this very moment, but since we have this price now, we have the benchmark for the holiday shopping period, e.g., that it will be at least this low then.

There was a front page deal like a month ago where if you bought directly from WD the price was about $90, FYI. Good info to know whether you're getting a good deal or not.

Ah, thanks for the heads-up! So that kind of price may well be repeated during the holidays.

The PC industry is suffering from a precipitous drop in the shipment volume, and yet idling the manufacturing equipment costs them dearly, so they have to make more and ship even at almost no profit. Serves us just fine.

How will this perform in a PCI slot with an adaptor?

Great time to build a PC. Unless you need a GPU.
