Kind of a bad deal. Others (including the official product and Best Buys Insignia brand) make use of the controllers built in USB-C connection. These circumvent that and have their own charging port on the battery itself- and based on Amazon reviews it is the old Micro-USB input- leaving the USB-C port unnecessary.

May not be a deal breaker for some, but almost everything I have now is USB-C and I'm not going back to save a couple dollars.

Tempting but I prefer just swapping rechargeable AA batteries.

Well there is actually. Just not the way you're talking about.

Is the best way to go, in my opinion.

You simply charge with the USB c port, built into the controller. Once you add this into your controller, no need to ever open the battery door again.

Thanks for the catch, 3JABO.

If it's using micro-usb when there's a clear benefit of using usb-c, I consider that as e-waste in this day and age

Yup. You can get some reliable batteries from IKEA and they can be very handy for other house stuff.

Absolutely what he said. Circumventing the oem charge plug is one of the most annoying things I've encountered. More than you think it's going to be.

Are you saying if I put rechargeable batteries in the controller, the controller will charge them if plugged in?

Nope, that's absolutely not it. Don't try charging batteries this way.

I didn't think so. I guess I'm confused by the comment that I quoted, since there is no "OEM charge plug".

Not if they are rechargeable AA's. But the official play and charge battery pack works that way.

This. Why buy dedicated batteries for your XBox controller when they're not even cheaper?
