It's very good, especially at printing but the interface is a bit old and clunky. If you look carefully, it looks like a calculator on top of the printer. So if your getting it for the print quality, you won't be disappointed but if you want a slick new fashioned printer that has an easy interface, you won't be happy. Even when I had to connect to the printer through my network, I had to setup a manager user and password and a few other things that kinda irked me but afterwards, I was ok with it.

The things to keep in mind about printers:
1) inkjet or laser, they all ship with introductory cartridges. They are not full.
2) When comparing the cost of replacement cartridges look at the cost per page (yield). The laser toners almost always print WAY more pages than inkjet tanks.

Powdered laser toner doesn't dry up and clog nozzles, so the printer doesn't have to keep clearing them and wasting ink when you don't use it. You can turn off a laser printer for months, then turn it on and use it, without cleaning nozzles or replacing ink cartridges.

Finally a proper replacement for my 12-year old $65 HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw printer. Certainly not as slick a deal, but the replacement should drop right in and give me duplex printing as a value add (not to mention that the fuser on my HP finally appears to have been starting to fail).

Good luck!
Jon

Bought the brother HL3270 over this when homeschooling. The Canon and HP multi laser printers at work were hell to get thru to print to MacOS and slow, the Brother has been flawless for almost 2 years now with no tinkering. Cheap third party toners too.
I wanted a color laser for homeschooling too. I was having trouble finding a "reasonably" priced one. I guess I should've just paid $50 more for a brother HL3210 now that I'm looking more. At least homeschool funds paid for the printer & will cover toner too. I already have a dell monochrome laser so I don't think I should need to print in color that much.

How does this compare to " HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw" which was $180 a couple of days back at NewEgg?

Is there a brother color multifunction that's good with cheap refills? I love my cheap brother laser multifunction but it would be nice to have color. Or is canon, Epson or some other brand the way to go?
Last week I bought a color laser brother, refurb direct from brother. Arrived next day for free. $205 IIRC after signing up for $20 off for being on their mailing list. It's like brand new. I got a duplex wireless color and i think they had the same thing with a copy and fax for same price.

Is there generic toner cartridges for this printer that work, or brother is a better option.

I seriously doubt it PLUS newer printers are programmed to reject NON genuine Canon/Brother/Epson....., cartridges !!

You might try refilling the cartridges [amazon.com] but that only works for 2~3 times before the printer catches on...and renders the cartridges obsolete !!

Just a word to the wise... the printer is quite good and I have been pleased with the purchase over the 5+ years I've had it. No clogs to worry about with inkjet, no wasted ink during "purge" cycles, etc.

However, the official replacement ink carts are too expensive... almost the cost of the printer and not something you will want to purchase. 95% of the replacement toner carts that are off market are from the same company... and they leak inside the printer, ruining the print head and getting toner dots and streaks on every print. Then, the companies will send you emails requesting your remove your negative amazon comment and offer at $20 gift card to do so.

I'm currently using off-market toner carts that seem to not be leaking... but man - the carts are VERY LOUD when you print... but for $80 a set... that is a far cry cheaper than the official carts at $200.

TLDR: Great printer... expensive toner carts when replacement is needed.

Please don't respond if you don't have the right info... this is a LASER printer not INKJET!

Yes - there are replacment toner carts available...

NO - a chip is not present on these carts so the printer has no idea.

Even for Inkjet printers, there are refillable kits available from places like PrecisionInk that allow you to not only refill Canon Carts, but use a chip resetter so the printer will acknowledge and print perfectly like official carts. I've been using these for years on my Canon Photo printers... Look it up... and learn.

I've had my eye on this one for awhile https://www.brother-usa.com/products/rhll3290cdw It looks like a solid machine and the replacement toner isn't too expensive.

Have three Canon printers and I have to say their software sucks. I use macbook pro and need to reinstall and re setup the printer every time when I use it. Sometimes it is not even recognizable so I need to use a USB cable to print my docs.

I can't say for the printing quality as the hassle of using the printers via wifi kills all the good things about it, if any.
Have you tried assigning a static IP address to the printer?

That looks pretty good, I remember the black and white laser I have was only $50, maybe a little more since it was multifunction like this one. I see each cartridge retail is about $75 per color, did you see generics for a lot less? Thanks!
