I recommend keeping them at exits. If there's a fire, get out first, then assess if you want to go back in or get help or whatever. I keep one just outside my workshop and just outside my kitchen. It doesn't have to be the building exit, it can be the fire-risky room's exit.
No water on a grease fire- extinguisher or smother with something preferably not flammable. No water on an electrical fire- kill your power, verify power is out, then troubleshoot accordingly.
Oh, something about eating your vitamins...

Or on the flip side when our vehicles dip below 0* in the winter?

My car regularly gets above 120ºF, and it still worked when I needed it. If that happens, it's best to keep it insulated somehow. For example, if you keep a blanket in your car, wrap it in the blanket. It will dampen the temperature extremes. If the car goes between 80ºF at night and 140ºF during the day then the insulated fire extinguisher may see temperatures between 100ºF and 120ºF.
