Found these sets in Lowe's electrical tool area, they have clearanced several Ideal tools to bring in their Klein displays which I've seen setup in stores already. You can snag Klein tools clearanced at Home Depot AND Ideal clearanced tools at Lowe's. A lot of the Klein has dried up over the last few weeks but there is still a decent amount of Ideal stuff. Both brands are made in the USA and make durable tools known in the industry.

For more than 100 years, IDEAL electrical has had a proud history of producing the highest quality tools by marrying innovation with tradition. It's not just about making high quality tools, it's about making them the right way. This 6 piece tool kit includes the basic tools an electrician needs.

Tools included:
  • 9-1/2 in. linesman - 30-430
  • 8 in. diagonal cutting - 35-029
  • 8-1/2 in. long-nose - 35-038
  • 1/4 in. heavy-duty cabinet - 35-150
  • #2 Phillips - 35-194
  • T-Stripper Wire Stripper - 45-120

For anyone going to the career as an electrician, don't buy these. Go with Klein Tools.

While I do prefer Klein linesman pliers, I bought this set last year and it worked just fine for the 6 months I spent in my company's electrical department doing residential new construction.

While I have mostly Klein Tools, can you avoid subjectivity and add some objective reasons why these USA made tools shouldn't be purchased over Klein? I get brand preference...if you're stealing the apprentices tools you want to make sure they are good ones. In all seriousness, why? Have you had any negative experiences with Ideal?

Cause it's all about them fanboys. They know best. Since when does objectivity exist on slick deals? That is like expecting your helper to show up on time and actually help you! /S

Unless you don't own an actual hammer, channellock is also a good choice. Plenty of excellent German and Japanese options as well.

FWIW, Home Depot has the 7-piece Klein Tools set similar to this, but in checking yesterday it hasn't been clearanced yet. It still has the full retail price of $99.95.

They had the Klein 1000 volt orange set for $49.98...but the 'normal' ones were full price. I think all the Klein stuff is almost gone at this point.

My HD is pretty stocked up with Klein, but no discounts. I wonder what kind of discretion store or district managers have in when to clear these.

Well...I think the window is closed or is rapidly closing on the discounted Klein stuff. They still have Klein products but I believe they will be phasing them out in favor of Milwaukee branded hand tools. I'm not sure if that means everything Klein or certain products...right now it certainly seems like certain products. At a few stores this week I've seen Klein and Home Depot employees moving everything around. One guy today said they moved the remaining clearanced Klein tools to a rack over by the Pro desk. Maybe that helps someone...but the electrical tools bay was already resorted and they had filled half of it with Milwaukee tools and consolidated all of the Klein together in the other half of the same bay.

One store already had half the Klein rack filled with Milwaukee yesterday. However, the digital tools an aisle over - DVMs, circuit checkers, laser measure, etc - we still fully stocked. The employee commented that he believes they are retaining those and that only the 'hand tools' are being replaced.

Lowes is picking up Klein tools, thus the Ideal deals. But yeah the worst of the fanboys are the electricians.
