For you, better to get it done at the dealer.

I typically spend about $25 DIY for full synthetic. It takes me less time to DIY then to drive to the shop and wait.

Well if your vehicle takes ~ 5 qts then with this deal you're paying about $13 for the oil, then probably $7 or 8 for the filter (I buy Purolator from Amazon and for my vehicles they are $8 plus they are eligible for S&S), so all in for consumables it's like $20ish. If you value your time (will basically always be quicker to DIY when you consider driving to a place then waiting), and you have the tools and space, yeah it still makes sense.

Everyone says how easy it is to do it yourself but never mentions disposing of the used oil.
Most auto parts place take used oil for free. Just bring it in a used jug and they will add it to their recycling tank. Then take your used jug the the trash. Easy peasey.

where take coolant used??? Poison
Our recycling center will take coolant. Local auto parts stores here don't take it, but they do in some towns.

It's only easy to do yourself if you have the resources. Lots of people live in public housing or apartments and likely don't own a floor jack, jack stands, or even basic tools.

I absolutely know how to do it, but I'm not exactly thrilled to store a jack and stands in my 1 BR apt
I agree, and actually those should not even comment on this topic because this deal is absolutely no interest to them!

First time when I decided to DIY oil change I invested in a FUMOTO valve.
Now I only need to push oil pan under car, get under, stretch my arm and release the valve, then I go have a beer (maybe two). Then I close the valve, pull out the oil pan, and since I'm lucky, my oil filter is on top, so I replace that in 2 minutes, then I fill up with Kirkland oil. When done, I empty the oil pan into the empty Kirkland oil jug, and next time I go shopping I drop that in my car, stop at Auto zone and discard it.

The advantage of changing your own oil once a year is that 1) you can control the quality 2) You can check the underside of your car once a year 3) faster and cheaper. I have a supply of discontinued Mobil 1 filters - solid metal caps, made in USA, a decade worth. Bought a dozen when they discontinued them for cheaper manufacture - best filters ever made for my car.

I will admit that it is easier to pay someone, but I change oil for 2 cars same time so the overhead of prep and clean up is spread out and can do 2 cars in under 90 min including set up, waiting for the oil to drain and clean up

I currently only do an oil change once every 10 months. My truck requires six quarts of oil. How long does oil stay good on the shelf? In my case the garage, where it gets hot and cold depending on the season.

Bunch of snobs in here... Truth is, if you don't know what you're doing and looking at when you change oil, you should probably have a dealer do it. Responsible dealers will check over the vehicle with ACE certified mechanics. Valvoline instant oil change and other unskilled oil change places do not provide the same service, and are likely the source of the hate in this thread.

This deal would give me enough oil to do changes on my car for the next 2 years... Will it be 'fine' stored in the container in my New Hampshire garage for that time period, or do the containers fail after that type of storage length?

I just changed my truck's oil today using the oil I got on SD from the previous Costco deal. Mobile1 filter was $11 on Amazon. I'm already stocked up last time and thinking about getting more lol. My wife's plug-in hybrid uses the same oil as my nissan v8 lol. I did hers also, finally, once a year. All her miles are electric and her year old oil is so clear. I feel like it's not necessary due to her not driving with the engine, but I change it anyways.

No 5W-20 in my local Costcos. They've all switched to 5W-30 and 0W-20 only.

Are you sure it's a gallon and not 5 quarts? Seems silly that they would have different sizes instore vs online.

I have mixed feelings about dealer. Not sure if you noticed but the dealer only change oil every 10k so, you don't really getting oil change on the 5k. Don't listen to their bull about new car doesn't need less than 10k per oil change. Oil is cheap, your car engine isn't
You should change oil every month /s
