In Settings, search for "Unlock". Select the app Unlock (pink icon) near the bottom. Storage & Cache -> Clear storage -> back -> Open ( to launch app).
This created the permanent unlock option for me. Had to click this option a few times but eventually unlocked.
9/5 activation on Android 13 Jan updates. metro sim installed

Thanks to everyone who provided suggestions. Reset, force stop, cache clear, nothing worked, with the permanent unlock option not showing up.

What coincidently worked was opening the unlock option with airplane mode on ( and wifi off as well) it the showed the error message sating cannot connect but also showed all of the various options including the permanent unlock option. Which i then clicked after turning on wifi

Just purchased phone. So do I understand correctly in that you just go into your account online and cancel service then wait the required six months and the phone will then be unlocked? Or am I missing something?
