"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:
Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...
I ended up moving offices and misplaced this phone for a while. So I'm just trying to unlock it now. So far no success. I first activated the phone back on Sep 1, 2023. He kept the service for a month, placing the occasional text and phone call, but then allowed service to lapse. It's been sitting off and in a drawer since probably December. Again so far no luck unlocking

What coincidently worked was opening the unlock option with airplane mode on ( and wifi off as well) it the showed the error message sating cannot connect but also showed all of the various options including the permanent unlock option. Which i then clicked after turning on wifi
This works for me too! Thank you!
1. Put the phone into airplane mode, and make sure Wi-Fi is off
2. Clear the cache and data of the unlock app
3. Open the unlock app
4. You'll get an error about no data connectivity, but also a very small clickable link to 'show more options' or something like that
5. Click the button that says something like 'attempt permanent unlock' (don't remember what it said exactly)
6. Only now turn your Wi-Fi back on when prompted
That's what worked for me! My phone was well past the unlock window, so it should have unlocked automatically. All this did was give me the option to force a check.

I went to Settings > About phone and saw that in the Device Unlock setting, it showed the phone was locked. I clicked on this setting, and I remember it showed a page with some link to Metro's unlock policy and also a link whose text was something like Request Permanent Unlock (can't remember the exact wording). I tapped on this Request Permanent Unlock link and it did something (again can't remember exactly what happened), but eventually, the phone said that I needed to restart it to have the unlock change take effect. I restarted the phone and checked again in Settings > About phone that the Device Unlock setting now shows "Unlocked".
I was on wifi during this whole entire time and never messed around with airplane mode. Also, the original Metro SIM card was still in the phone.

I had to do an extra restart, then permanent unlock , it did work, thank you.
