For tracking wires behind walls. The big portion clips to your wires, the wireless portion is a chicken stick that will beep to that wire. It also works as an adjustable sensitivity voltage sensor.

Not trying to be funny but, tracing wires lol. Say your home wiring is unlabeled in your panel, you can plug one end of this into the socket, and go to the other end of the run and the "wand" will light up/beep when you find the right wire. Works vice-versa and is useful regardless of circuit type as long as you can get one end attached to the wire.

Also helpful for rats nest wires where you can only find the ends. Haven't used one of these on Ethernet but I would imagine an adapter or hard wire would allow you to trace those as well.

You would plug this into low voltage wiring like in one of the pictures (looks to be plugged into an rj11 phone plug there).

The transmitter sends a tone/siren through the wires that you cannot hear without the receiver on the other end.

You would take the receiver to where you think the other end of the wire is, hold the point nearby, and if it's your wire, you will hear the siren.

Technically the siren will be audible even if you're near any part of the wire - so say you have a cable internet outlet, you plug it in with that adapter and you can follow where it goes in your walls, crawlspace, etc, perhaps out to a splitter sending it three ways from your cable company, then determine which fork on the splitter it's coming out of.

Can you use this to trace an outlet all the way to the panel to determine fuse location?

nevermind, I see aboves comment.

It clearly states this is for non energized circuits. Not to be used in electrical panels at all or identifying live outlets or circuits. It is for identifying individual disconnected dead wires usually communication type wires not live circuits. I suppose you could use it for tracing an outlet wire if it were disconnected at both ends but that is not the purpose of this device.

This is a good clarification to not have the wires energized. I have one and have used it to trace non-energized wires behind walls.

Have a broken wire to a sprinkler valve buried somewhere in my yard, have to see if this will work finding it.

Could someone actually be this stupid? Definitely, but it's also likely what we are looking at here is paid influencer "engagement bait". There's been a very noticeable uptick in engagement bait on SD in the last couple of months.
