It looks like they cut prices on the Model X and Model X Plaid. The base Model X now sells for $79,990 while the Plaid now sells for $89,990. All color options are included too. It also seems as if it might now qualify for a tax credit.

Edit: Model S prices were slashed too.

Model S base model $74,990
Model S Plaid $89,990

basically a heavy 6000lb write off. Supposed to be able to write it off immediately in the first year so you basically get the car for a huge discount since you writing it off as a business expense. reducing 80K tax liability in your biz earnings.

The pricing is absolutely stupid.. They should have made X 77k.. Almost everyone would add yoke stearing and 22" wheels to stay under 80k and get credit while also getting some extra
Nobody in their right mind would add yoke steering

That entirely depends on the percent of renewable power in the electric grid you are charging from.
No, it really does not.

It's vastly more efficient to produce electricity in central power plants regardless of fuel source than to burn gasoline in inefficient internal combusion engines where most of the fuel turns into waste heat instead of motion.

If that grid has mostly coal based power or in some cases, even natural gas power, then the net result is that for the overall environment, the electric cars are not beneficial.
Outright false.

https://www.reuters.com/business/...s%20showed.

Even with a 100% coal grid EVs are still cleaner than gas cars over the typical lifetime of a vehicle.

And in countries like the US where about 80% of the grid is not coal you reach "cleaner than a gas car including production costs" VERY quickly and it keeps being more clean year after year (because our grid keeps getting cleaner over time)

Same price it was in 2020
My Model Y P used price dropped big time but it's not as much as the 40K (it was actually 40K from the high for Plaid S) so technically the MY drop is less than MS Plaid so I can buy the Plaid S with a trade in for just 60k cash.

That's a decent deal for a fast as f car. or I can do model X if I want to keep an SUV but 2.5s 0-60 isn't fast enough if I have to spend 60K to trade up! Might as well go for 1.99 for roller coaster fun

I'm pretty sure the plaid was going for $130k early last year. That's a big drop in a year and a half.
@tqlla3k is right , plad was 140K last year. Some context. https://imgur.com/a/jbZSuwm

The details of the GREET model are unknown and in the exact article you linked, there is a different calculation that says "University of Liege researcher Damien Ernst said in 2019 that the typical EV would have to travel nearly 700,000 km before it emitted less CO2 than a comparable gasoline vehicle. He later revised his figures down.
Now, he estimates the break-even point could be between 67,000 km and 151,000 km. Ernst told Reuters he did not plan to change those findings, which were based on a different set of data and assumptions than in Argonne's model."

Which means that a single study is not adequate to make such conclusions. Lets agree to disagree.

Fastest car ever made??
Probably meant top acceleration, not velocity. To make it clearer, should say "quickest" instead of "fastest." I think I learned that when taking a college physics course.

If your income qualifies for the EV credit, you don't make enough to afford the car
I mean I see your point, but even people like Dave Ramsey would potentially have no problem with someone buying an $80k car if you make $250k and pay cash for it. It's not about your income, it's about your net worth.

I see this as a response to the DoE bailing out Ford & GM yet AGAIN with $15.5B in taxpayer dollars to build out EV production.

Elon definitely thinks a hard recession is coming. Ironically, I could see the Model Y prices getting jacked up a bit this fall.

I will suggest everyone to wait till November and Elon will throw in another set of discounts on S and X if you buy a new car by 12/31. He likes to goose his sales numbers to show Tesla is growing at at least 50% year on year to keep the stock price elevated.

All of that talk is silly anyway but the real world....

Everyone can hit 0-60 hard all day and make use of the fastest acceleration outside of a Rimac at 2.3M And maybe only 0.01% can hit the top speed.

I'd bet 90% of people don't even go past 100Mph while 1% may go past 120Mph occasionally. I know of maybe 2 guys who would go 120mph+ on the high way but that's like for 1 minute max. No one I know will go 150Mph for more than a second and their cars can do 180Mph. They can't even do that at Watkin's.

150Mph is crazy fast already and need a straight line and slightest movement could be a bit scary on public roads.

Anyway- I'd think 50% Plaid Owners can hit 0-60 hard on the street as long as the road is clear at the launch My MYP is only 3.5s, My old M3P was 3.1s I gun it all the time while launching or passing (this is also another area where quick reaction and power is awesome with the no lag launch). I'd get Plaid S but I enjoy the SUV size but Plaid X is just 2.5 and not worth the upgrade for me for 60k cash

So if you want to enjoy 0-60 launch thrills for yourself and your passengers, Plaid is best deal and can best all of the cars you can afford. Sure it doesn't look as cool as Turbo S but it's also half the price.

We bought a used 2018 75D X early last year for the same price as a new one now. I sorta feel like as if I invested in bitcoin. Resale value just tanked for sure.
I got a Model Y last year for $70k new, it now starts under $50k. For 10k not ei could have purchased the X…

The battery technology and battery management in the Tesla is not the same as in your phone. Real-world data shows that Tesla battery degradation was less than 10% after over 160,000 miles.
Absolute bull. I bought a model 3 and it lost 18% of range within 2 years. I dumped that garbage during the Tesla shortage in 2021 and made a profit. Don't recommend EVs at all. I'd wait till minimum 2025 until the battery tech gets better and then I'm getting back into the EV game.

You are absolutely right. I got the Model Y performance and I always drive in Chill mode…. It's insane I know. Track mode disables many safety features so it's not something you would want to use all the time anyway
