It looks like they cut prices on the Model X and Model X Plaid. The base Model X now sells for $79,990 while the Plaid now sells for $89,990. All color options are included too. It also seems as if it might now qualify for a tax credit.

Edit: Model S prices were slashed too.

Model S base model $74,990
Model S Plaid $89,990

The bottom line is if you want to travel long distance, tow anything, have a dependable car in winter, don't mind an $800 + monthly payment and a large insurance premium, take a huge loss on value, pay 20,000 for home charger and pray you don't need to replace the battery, then an EV is for you.
The overwhelming majority of people don't tow. I think $750 a month is the average for new cars. My insurance premium is not high at all, 90% of cars (gas included) take a huge drop in value when they are driven off the lot. $20K for charging??? No one wants to replace their batteries or replace a gasoline engine. Nobody.

Tesla had over a decade-long headstart on EVs. Now competition is finally taking hold and they are feeling it. Their stockholders will feel it, too.

They're not rich. They are $100k millionaires who finance a fast depreciating asset at 7.25%

Well yeah, if you have bad spending habits you won't gain/keep net worth. But most people who have $1M+ net worth worked hard to get there and responsibly saved money over some amount of time. They are more likely to have a good deal cash on hand (tho not always the case, of course). Age and income have very little to do with what you can afford to purchase. If you have the money for it, and your basic necessities and family are already taken care of, you can afford it.
$2M+ NW is the new $1M+. Also, how many of those people browse and comment on Slickdeals?

I'm pretty sure the plaid was going for $130k early last year. That's a big drop in a year and a half.
Even worse. Before the price cut in January (less than 9 months ago), the base Model was $104,990 and plaid was $135,990. I imagine those buyers are probably pissed.

Probably meant top acceleration, not velocity. To make it clearer, should say "quickest" instead of "fastest." I think I learned that when taking a college physics course.
Actually is the fastest and quickest. There is one in orbit apparently so based velocity of an object in space relative to one in the surface.

It is the fastest.

Does fsd transfer? I haven't been in the loop. Own a 2017 S with fsd and might want the x now. I've been holding out for the lucid gravity though.
According to Tesla, you may, but only in a short window.
"Customers who take delivery of a new Tesla vehicle between July 20, 2023 and September 30, 2023 may qualify for transferring Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability from their current vehicle to their new vehicle."

You laugh but he is correct. The model S Plaid is one of the fastest production cars made so far. Can you name another sedan under $100K that do 0-60 in 2 seconds?
Closest ICE car I can even think is 2023 Porsche Taycan Turbo S
2021 Porsche Taycan Turbo S
Price: $187,400
0- 60: 2.6 seconds

I have Model 3 Performance and can tell you for sure the instant power is hard to beat. Its a huge achievement of automotive engineering for sure.

Haha Taycan is electric, not ICE

Electric cars aren't for everyone.

Has the U.S. electric car market currently become saturated?

Is Tesla cutting prices because there's actually competition now?

These are legit questions.

I've always been intrigued by the performance aspects of Electrics, but other than the looks of the model S no other Tesla models have ever appealed to me.

I still believe that the power and charging infrastructure, and the current EV battery chemistries aren't even close to mass adoption levels yet. Will all these things eventually happen? Probably.

When will Mass adoption happen? Who knows.

Prices, better battery chemistry, and infrastructure are the only things holding E.V.'s back from taking over, But I think we're still a long way from that happening, and I think these price cuts, and other manufacturers electrics reportedly starting to rot on dealer lots, are a good indication that Electrics aren't quite ready for the mainstream.
"Ready for mainstream" is a weird phrase.

I'd say EVs have seen a steady growth. There were 800k sold last year. There will be 1.1M sold this year. Probably 1.5 million in 2024, etc. What counts as "mass-adoption" and "mainstream" is probably just some number on the line.

I'd also say while they aren't "right for everybody" they are right for most people with a parking space. It's just most people are hesitant to change their ways.

And yeah, as the tech and infrastructure improves, they'll be right for more people-- though at that point, the incentives will probably disappear.
