Contrary to a few comments above, the keyboard is backlit on this model. I recently bought one and can confirm. There's even customer photos on the bottom of the page showing the keyboard lit up.

Have you looked at the price of Chromebooks (and laptops) lately?

From my point of view, here's what this one has going for it:

8 GB is hard to come by in a Chromebook - I run lots of tabs AND crouton with full Linux on a 4GB MT8183 and do have occasional issues. And 8 GB would be a bare minimum for Windows anyway.
Ryzen 7320C is way better than MT8183C in benchmarks, and way way better than any Celeron (in my personal opinion, but I'm sure there's room for discussion on that but please, no flames)
2-in-1 for this price is a good deal
14" FHD screen is a good deal - many 2-in-1's only come with 11".
Who really needs Windows these days? I run OpenOffice in Linux, and MS Office online is free w/ educational account anyway if you need it.

Probably doesn't need 128GB for most people, but whatever.

Only thing I'd like to see is a back-lit keyboard, but not a deal breaker since it is a 2-in-1.

The Ryzen 3 7320c is about 65% faster than the n6000 you'd find in a lot of the cheaper intel chromebooks.

It's actually faster than an i7 6700

4c/8t with a 4.1 Ghz boost, it's an incredible 15w CPU

It truly is. It is more expensive though. But it goes on sale occasionally. But currently the 714 is 699 at best which is significantly more than this. If you can catch it on sale, it's a great deal.

Is it the best price to value ratio Chromebook? I need one for watching movies and consuming reddit and random internet. This or MacBook air?

Is this a "gamer" Chromebook I have been seeing in commercials?

No, those got canned. This with 2cu (compute units) is definitely not a gamer version.

but it probably isn't worse than the atom based chromebooks.

I'd say yes, it's probably one of the best value-to-price chromebooks at this current price point.

I picked one of these up last time it went down to this price. Overall you really can't beat it for sub $300.

The things you can't really tell from just reading specs is that yes, it is heavy for it's size, but my guess is that it's mostly from the battery, which holds a charge ungodly long. With "sitting in the living room internet surfing" usage, after the first charge I didn't have to charge it again for several days.

The weight does make it feel more sturdy/substantial. Very little keyboard flex for a chromebook.

The 16:10 screen ratio is also really nice. A good compromise between 16:9 (horrible IMO for 80% of what people use chromebooks for most of the time which is net surfing, not watching 2 hour movies constantly) and 4:3.

I only really have 2 minor complaints. First is the matte blue plastic finish. It looks gorgeous, but in reality it will pick up any sort of palm grease and fingerprints like crazy. The 2nd is the screen ( a problem I notice with many Asus chromebooks regardless of price point). Overall it's good, but it has trouble with anti-aliasing smaller text within Chrome OS (for example the small notification fonts). Could be a smigden brighter, but overall good screen, especially for the price point.

I've mostly owned Acer Spins 713's, but the battery life on this is what sold it. We mainly use chromebooks as around-the-house convenience net-surfers, and to pick up a chromebook with low battery life freaking succksss. This one doesn't have that problem.
