300 nits, 45% ntsc IPS display.

the former is above the all important threshold for me (250=unacceptable, 300=acceptable!). the latter afaik indicates a somewhat low quality display. but the former is more important imo.

wonder if bb has it on display to check out the well, display...

seems like a good deal, saw a similar lenovo for i believe 259 recently w/8gb ram, but it came with a pentium silver n6000 which i'm sure is well less than this.

I'd pay $100 more to get the refurb Acer 516GE. That thing is studly, I've owned one since they came out.

This is well below that. The processor is better than past AMD efforts but I've learned to be disappointed with AMD in past chromebooks.

Is it the best price to value ratio Chromebook? I need one for watching movies and consuming reddit and random internet. This or MacBook air?
You might find cheaper ones with 8GB DDR. Most likely with a less powerful CPU but that would not much matter for your use. Even 4GB would be enough for just that 8GB is needed if you have more than 9 tabs open.

The pros of this is a 16:10 screen and USB gen 2 as well as HDMI 2.1 so if you use a 4k monitor it would work better.

Chromebooks are quite fast so even a Celeron might work for you. The Mediatech are a bit slow except some high end ones.

I'd say yes, it's probably one of the best value-to-price chromebooks at this current price point.

I picked one of these up last time it went down to this price. Overall you really can't beat it for sub $300.

The things you can't really tell from just reading specs is that yes, it is heavy for it's size, but my guess is that it's mostly from the battery, which holds a charge ungodly long. With "sitting in the living room internet surfing" usage, after the first charge I didn't have to charge it again for several days.

The weight does make it feel more sturdy/substantial. Very little keyboard flex for a chromebook.

The 16:10 screen ratio is also really nice. A good compromise between 16:9 (horrible IMO for 80% of what people use chromebooks for most of the time which is net surfing, not watching 2 hour movies constantly) and 4:3.

I only really have 2 minor complaints. First is the matte blue plastic finish. It looks gorgeous, but in reality it will pick up any sort of palm grease and fingerprints like crazy. The 2nd is the screen ( a problem I notice with many Asus chromebooks regardless of price point). Overall it's good, but it has trouble with anti-aliasing smaller text within Chrome OS (for example the small notification fonts). Could be a smigden brighter, but overall good screen, especially for the price point.

I've mostly owned Acer Spins 713's, but the battery life on this is what sold it. We mainly use chromebooks as around-the-house convenience net-surfers, and to pick up a chromebook with low battery life freaking succksss. This one doesn't have that problem.
Someone mention that it is a bit heavy. Does it feel portable (weight and size) enough to walk around town or campus with it?

Someone above says it does have a backlit keyboard.

There's a lot to like in these specs, but I can hodl out with my current junk until 2025.

So yes this should be upgradable.

And to the one who said the keyboard was not backlit it is infact that.

Yes, when people and I say it's heavy, we're speakign relative to it's size.. i.e. a 14" laptop. Also, chromebooks just generally have an expectation of being light because they don't have as many components (i.e. GPU) and are almost always all plastic construction with little to no metal and/or glass.

Nobody is going to need to take a break in the middle of the day for a breather carrying around this laptop. It's on par with a thin and light 15" in terms of weight.'

Sorry for my naïveté, but what is the difference between Thunderbolt and what this computer lists: "USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C support display / power delivery" ?
