"Your money is federally insured by the NCUA with our promotional Share Certificate, offering you peace of mind."

NCUA vs FDIC according to Google/Bankrate: Both the NCUA and FDIC are responsible for insuring funds in the event that a financial institution fails. The NCUA insures credit union accounts, while the FDIC provides federal insurance for bank accounts. They both come with the same limits on insurance coverage.

NCUA website: The NCUA does not insure money invested in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, life insurance policies, annuities or municipal securities, even if these investment or insurance products are sold at a federally insured credit union.

Has anyone done this? Can anyone join? I don't see clear indication of membership requirements or qualifcations. Usually credit unions have some gimmicky way to join.

Their page to join has a form to fill out and it says a member of their team will call you.
"After submitting your application, one of our team members will reach out to you within one business day."

EDIT : Think I answered my own question :
https://www.american1cu.org/contact-us

"To join American 1, you first join Community 1 Cooperative for a small $3 membership fee. Joining Community 1 gives you access to a variety of discounted services and all of the wonderful everyday banking products and services of American 1 Credit Union! Then you'll deposit $5 into your new American 1 savings account and you'll officially be a member. Complete our online membership application to join today!"

That then links to the form to join I found before.
It does seem anyone can join, just pay the $3 member fee.

That just means they can stop the promotion at any time, but once you take the promotion, you're locked into the 6% rate for 12 months.

Short term treasury is definitely better than CD. Fidelity has this great calculator for tax equivalent rate comparison. 5% treasury is equivalent to 6%CD, depending on your income. https://digital.fidelity.com/prgw...yieldcalc/

I think this is the link that a slickdealer gave me when I had similar questions as you.
https://www.investopedia.com/term...rybill.asp

I'm pretty much just buying a bunch of 4 week t bills through Fidelity now. No state tax in CA on tbills which is cool.
