You can DIY upgrade the Encore with the M2 burr which is what I did and would recommend.

Thanks I've been meaning to get a grinder and start making my own coffee instead of using cometeer pods, but they were so expensive I was resigned to getting a generic hand mill.
This seems like a great 33% discount on the top 'budget' electric model.

I don't know if it's a misprint but the Encore is listed as 220 volts Virtuoso + is 230 volts. Better confirm before buying if you're in the US.

Can anyone speak for the Virtuoso? I want to eventually get a expresso machine and the Encore doesn't do fine grind. This seems like a good deal for a upgrade

The founders and parent company Baratza (long time defenders of the original build quality and machine robustness) sold to a corporate conglomerate Breville Group in 2020. Baratza have had their own scratch and dent, demo and rebuilt offerings sections on their website which is why they were rarely if ever offered via Woot and similar sites previously. The founders were both reportedly to stay on after the "merger" *cough purchase* but I haven't followed to know if that is still the case.

Have the Virtuoso (non plus) which is basically the Encore with the upgraded M2 burr and it's a very good machine, we'll built, simple, repairable (so far) and consistent. Definitely takes the taste of home coffee up a significant notch by grinding your own beans at home.

You can search for the M2 burr change mentioned above. I know the encore isn't ideal for espresso, but the burr change may make it sufficient.

I decided to get the Viruoso+ after seeing how much the M2 upgrade cost. The M2 burr alone isn't currently available on their website so the next alternative is the kit: https://www.baratza.com/product/k...-sp0100807

For me it cost $65 after tax and shipping. At this price point I might as well go to the Viruoso instead of the Encore + Upgrade Kit for $25 more.
