Alright Sony, you have full frame mirrorless the size of the a6xxx series, now it's time to make smaller APSC mirrorless again. Shove the internals of the a6400 into the NEX-6 frame so I can actually have a pocketable camera again.
Is this a good camera for a beginner? Looking for home and street photography/videos. Running out of space on my phone and want to start editing as well
You can get a solid beginner camera for half this price, less if you go used, to learn the basics on. But, if you want something you can grow into, and don't mind spending the cash, this would make a fine, albeit borderline overkill, beginner camera.
Was really hoping for stronger video. This new 33mp Sony sensor has too much rolling shutter (and no 60fps full width readout) which is very unfortunate. I would love to have something more video-centric but without going all the way to the ZV-E1. I wish Sony had something similar to their 20-70mm for APS-C!

Way overkill for a beginner. You should just get a refurbished Canon for $250. Then once you outgrow that in a year or two you can buy something better. By that time this Sony camera will be several hundred dollars less

The real question is how much money do you want to spend on lenses? As a beginner, an APSC camera like the a6700 would be plenty enough, plus there's a bevy of apsc lenses that are cheaper than full frame. If your intention is to one day charge people for your photos then stick with full frame. If you don't know, get the a6700 and save $1000+ between the body and lenses.

I have a DSLR but it's too big and bulky and always just end up using my phone instead. I still consider myself a beginner because I never really delved into the hobby much but I am trying to now.
Oh, OK. But for better image quality, a good glass is required, which would make things bulky.
I mean, you'd need to do these trade -offs....
Other option would be Rx100 series or ZV-1 series

sony seldom lowers their msrp on cameras... the a1 for instance is still listed at the same $6498 that it first released at, over 2.5 years ago.
sony dropped the evf on some of their vlogging cameras, like the vz-series, but it still doesn't match the old nex-series size.
