its still expensive to be locked into their ecosystem. it will become useless when they discontinue the product or service. they could also start putting features behind a paywall again like they used to.

Yes (obviously check with your insurance company about the requirements) but for mine, it's 7% off the premium. Makes it a very quick payback period

You could just unplug it and turn it on manually.

Do some people have 3/4 inch water mains coming into their home? I thought 1" was the standard.

I bought this about 6 months ago and have loved it so far. It does a nightly leak test and it actually has detected several small drips with my garden hoses. When you leave you can put it on away mode and it will look for any water usage while you're gone. I get an automated phone call sometimes when my kids take way too long of a shower.
shut it off if they're taking too long

How does the leak detection really works?
Can it tell the location of the leak?

There is a water flow sensor in it and if it detects a constant flow of water all the time then there is a leak.

At 2 am most households are not using water. Pick a time when you do not normally use water. If this meter senses water flow at those times, likely a leak somewhere. It doesnt know where, just that water is flowing when it shouldnt. If it detects this situation it notifies you and shuts off the water.

I have a Dome shutoff which snaps over a standard 1/4 turn shutoff and works great. Plus it's $100 and standard z-wave so it can integrate into SmartThings, Hubitat, etc. It doesn't have the smart water monitoring but for turning off the main when there is a leak it works great. We bought Z-Wave water detectors for $30 each and have them behind each toilet and under the kitchen sink. Water detected = turn off the main.

Will this restrict flow rate or lower pressure during max flow?

It is not WiFi based right ? It needs a hub as well S wave
After spending a long time trying to avoid smart device hubs I realize they really aren't that big of a deal and shouldn't be a primary deciding factor in what smart devices you end up getting. Best of ignoring it something uses a hub or not and just get whatever your decision ends up requiring.

Not saying anything about these specific devices either way, but the general idea holds that hubs shouldn't be a breaking point.

The risk of getting hacked is probably higher than a catastrophic water leak.
and then what? The worst they can do is turn your water off once and then you go change your password and issue is resolved.

No, it is not a pressure regulator. In fact if I am not mistaken, to properly function it does require consistent pressure so it is usually recommended to put these after the pressure regulator valve.

I have Phyn and its plumbing checks rely on pressure readings so if you don't have a regulator and pressure changes due to supply line changes, the nightly checks may return false results.

3/4" is standard for most homes, at least in the US.

would rather get the zooz titan. that one is easily installed compared to this
They're not the same product. The zooz Titan doesn't monitor water usage, it has an auto shutoff if one of the sensors you need to put around your home in areas likely to flood to automatically shut off. It has no way of detecting slow leaks that are not getting the sensor wet.
