its still expensive to be locked into their ecosystem. it will become useless when they discontinue the product or service. they could also start putting features behind a paywall again like they used to.

Yes (obviously check with your insurance company about the requirements) but for mine, it's 7% off the premium. Makes it a very quick payback period

You could just unplug it and turn it on manually.

would rather get the zooz titan. that one is easily installed compared to this
The Titan is just a valve actuator, it doesn't have a flow meter in it to track water usage like this one does.

if you read negative reviews they tell you this thing breaks in a year or two and it is always around power connecter. It gets flooded with water. How ironic.

Correct - I use the Titan at home in combination with Ring water sensors & other z-wave water sensors I have on my sump pumps and under sinks. If water is detected I can turn off the water manually, or if I wanted set automated rules. I've tested it and it works well, can also press the button on it to manually open/close the valve.

I bought this about 6 months ago and have loved it so far. It does a nightly leak test and it actually has detected several small drips with my garden hoses. When you leave you can put it on away mode and it will look for any water usage while you're gone. I get an automated phone call sometimes when my kids take way too long of a shower.
Great feedback. Question- did your plumber tap this in before your hot water heater or after? Just curious where it ultimately gets installed. I'm thinking about picking one up as we recently had a flood from a shower that was left on by the kids and overflowed the shower pan, but depending on where it needs to be installed will depend on how much my plumber will cost to cut the pipe and weld this one between them

There is a water flow sensor in it and if it detects a constant flow of water all the time then there is a leak.
It will shut off the water in the middle of the night and monitor the pressure on the house side of the flow meter, not the actual flow rate. It is extremely accurate for detecting very small leaks. The flow meter itself is for monitoring water usage but it can't detect the small drips like the nightly pressure test.

Why would someone hack this?
Some people hack things to expose how closed source software is almost always insecure.

I actually installed it myself. I literally Google'd how to solder copper pipe and it was surprisingly easy. Definitely install before the water heater so it can monitor all water usage. I have a 3/4" line from the city in my basement and put it on the main line.

Will this restrict flow rate or lower pressure during max flow?
I did a before and after test and there was no noticeable reduction in flow after installing.

Has to go on the main line or it would be useless. It should be installed after the regulator in theory.

If you have a well it HAS to be installed after your pressure tank or youd burn out your pump if it closed. I'd probably install after the sediment filter although that does leave a potential bit very unlikely leak location

That's interesting. I wonder why they did that.

I guess I'll stick with my flume water monitor and a separate shutoff valve.

I am a new homeowner and wanting this for sometime. Can this be user installed or need a plumber. Online installation videos seems to required some tooling for this.

No, it is not a pressure regulator. In fact if I am not mistaken, to properly function it does require consistent pressure so it is usually recommended to put these after the pressure regulator valve.

I have Phyn and its plumbing checks rely on pressure readings so if you don't have a regulator and pressure changes due to supply line changes, the nightly checks may return false results.
This is incorrect in numerous ways.

Not only pressure regulators reduce the flow or pressure of a hydraulic system. ANYTHING in the path of flow creates friction in the fluid and requires extra energy to overcome. This energy is pressure and there is a pressure drop across any obstruction, bend, valve, etc. Pressure is also the motive force behind flow and they are inversely proportional, but that's not what we're after.

There are 2 main types of flow meters, magnetic/inductive and some form of turbine/cone in the path of flow. Inductive are often snapped over pipes, but can be put in series like this one, but they tend to cost a lot more than this. Turbines or cones literally place a device in the path of flow. Turbines spin and they count the RPMs and determine flow, cones push a spring and a sensor determines how much it's moved, Yadaya math-viscosity-spring constant= flow rate. This type absolutely creates pressure drop and less force to drive the flow thereby reducing both. Is it negligible? I'm not sure, they don't have hydraulic documentation listed. But in a system with <50PSI, 5PSI loss would be substantial.

TLDR: Hydraulic engineer man says 90% chance this reduces pressure.

Noticeable by what metric lol? The eye test?

Does this have a little turbine in the path of the flow or is the pipe completely clear?
