One example are ozone generators. Sure the ozone is harmful if inhaled but there are many practical uses for it that don't involve respiratory exposure. For example, we use it to sanitize equipment in the lab. It allowed us to reuse masks and gowns during the COVID-19 PPE shortage. And I use one at home, enclosed in a plastic box. But my California friends don't have that freedom.
