This is a coffee with too much burnt/smoky flavor. Many people like it, but I can't quite accept it. Is there anyone else like me?

Thanks. I've just picked up a super automatic and one thing I didn't realize is that you aren't supposed to use dark roast oily beans, but I enjoy dark roast. Wonder what beans are good for super automatics that have a dark roast flavor without the oil?

Depends on the brand, but medium-dark roasts usually don't have much oil coating like dark roasts do. I'd buy beans from your grocery stores bulk coffee section if they have one, that way you can see the beans before hand.

Even their lighter roasts have that flavor which is odd. But this is cheap coffee at $7/lb normally so I didn't expect too much. I've found there's a big difference in quality when spending $14-18/lb at a local roaster.

The Costco brand espresso beans are not oily and we use them in ours.

I found the Kirkland Signature espresso beans to be oily in ours, not crazy oily like some dark roast, but enough to noticed. I've ran a couple bags of it in my super auto, no problems. I have switch to Cafe Vita that my local Costco was selling and the taste is night and day difference. I will probably support my local roasters going forward, the flavor difference is night and day vs the mass produced oily beans. Also, i'm a fan of light and medium roast over dark.

I use my super automatic to make cappuccino/lattes. I find all Lavazza beans I've tried including this to be weak on flavor/fragrance even at my Saeco's strongest setting. I like Peet's organic Mayan blend that Costco sells and Koffee Kult's dark roast from Amazon a lot more. Neither are that oily.

I believe Kirkland signature is a Starbucks white label

This is my preferred Lavazza bean. Some intensity but not super intense. If you are into darker roasts you will like this. Not too oily.

I use a philips superautomatic that handles these with ease.
