Edit2: Researched some more. This is not for advanced users. It is a cloud connected router (much like those Google wifi devices but potentially even less flexible). No web ui. Configuration of the router only through their app. And one review on bestbuy mentions the hoops the person had to go through to get the default subnet changed from 10.10.1.x to 192.168.1.x. He apparently had to call their tech support and escalate to higher levels in tech support to get them to change it in their cloud database. Ouch!

or was it more of a play to just buy some cheap chinese no name brand and market it as their own and hope to flip some coin b/c people might buy it w/ their name on it?

Agreed on number 2 and I'm also not a fan of not having a web interface. Dumb. For port forwarding, there are differing responses to that question on Amazon's page. One person says it doesn't support it while another says it's in the advanced settings in the app. Will find out soon.
My understanding is that it also doesnt support WPA3 and it doesnt have a USB connection either.
All those downsides said, I'm not sure that there is something else that offers the functionality it does have for 50 bucks.
Searched for 2.4, and there were multiple hits complaining about issues with 2.4ghz. FWIW it doesn't seem to be completely broken, but for devices that cannot connect there was no viable path to resolve.
