If your print outs are not dark enough, you have the toner saver/draft print quality turned on, which saves toner but makes the print outs lighter.

Likewise, Canon CDW642 does not have a problem with the feeder, so the issue almost certainly has to do with the paper that you're using.

These issues have nothing whatsoever to do with the printer manufacturer.

I'd never buy another Canon - currently own and using a MDW642 and it's always got some dumb issue I'm fixing. Toner isn't dark enough, paper gets jammed, super slow to fire up after sleeping.

Next printer, I'm going back to Brother and sticking with them.

The MF653Cw adds duplex printing and the MF654Cw also adds ADF. I see the latter go on sale more frequently.

Duplex printing certainly was not impossible at that price point a few years ago - https://slickdeals.net/e/13587157-ricoh-m-c250fwb-color-laser-multifunction-printer-169-free-s-h - I think I got exactly that one for around $100 that year and it is still going strong.

Exactly. They clearly have no idea what they're talking about. This printer has been rock solid for quite some time. No complaints.
