I'd tend to prefer name brand Chinese knives over name brand American knives. US factory Spyderco couldn't ship a centered knife if their life depended on it.

Many of the premium brands of chinese knives like civivi make their knives with cnc machines, right down to grinding and sharpening them. Of course cnc is going to be more consistent and really better quality than factory hand made knives. For hand made to be more consistent than cnc your gonna need the Michael Jordans of the knife making world. Those knives exist but they have the price tag to match, $1500 + and even $2500 are common for each knife. If you can afford those knives, more power to you. For regular factory hand made knives like the us made spyderco, consistency is going to be inferior to the chinese cnc made knives.

I personally have this knife, fit and finish are excellent, flawless. I've had it clipped in my front jeans pocket for many years banging around with keys, change and everything else, holds up fine still looks new. In my state no go with fixed blade in pocket, but folding is fine with no size limits. I'm totally happy with this knife several years now. If your looking for a defensive tool you really can't go wrong with this emerson considering quality, price or durability.

Bullshit. A symmetrical grind and centered blade isn't rocket surgery.

Hmm, I fail to see your point, so what if it isn't rocket surgery ? Anyways, hey, do you know why high precision parts are done on cnc and not by hand ? Cnc's will do .00007 of an inch repeatable accuracy and do it all day long.

Quit excusing shoddy work "becuz not CNC!"

Not sure what the obsession with CNC is, did you just discover it?
Excusing shoddy work ? Eh ? when did that happen ? What I said was cnc is more consistent. And when did I say "becuz not CNC!" ? You might be mixing up posts.....

Looks like. I had it in my cart stewing and it is at the higher price now.

I have a few of these already, just not it D2. So, I was thinking about it but will pass now. Too many knives already. These are solidly built knives with the Emerson opener if you do not mind the weight. Not exactly great but cheap.

If you like the size and opener, but want something a bit nicer, try the Daggerr Pelican. It is a newer Russian brand and pretty nice although $69. It is also D2, liner lock rather than frame, nice detent and the thumb stud actually opens the knife. Also more than two ounces lighter than the Kershaw.

Good info. I landed on Spyderco's Sage 5 after returning 4 of their US made knives. I don't know if the Taiwan factory uses cnc machines, but the fit and finish just seemed on an entirely different level.

Lol, wow, that daggerr pelican sure looks pretty wild. The blade form is unusual, a modified sheep's foot design. Blade shape also reminds me of a canadian belt knife. I like the skull with teeth detail on the pocket clip, I wonder if that is machined or stamped ? Thanks for pointing out that pelican, an interesting knife.
