I have used this exact model for the last 3 years as a desk. It's very good with a couple of issues:

The clearcoat on it isn't very durable and has worn out in a few places.

The center front is not supported by anything. The back has a long metal bar that secures to the wood. So, the front center begins to sag a little, I'd say like 1/8", if any kind of weight is routinely placed on that location. Also since the back has that metal piece it's not possible to clamp anything to it. No monitor clamp, etc. You must clamp those to the sides.

Unless you're going to use it as a standing desk you'll probably wind up letting the legs go all the way down, even past the last notch. At this height it is 28" to the table top.
Is this a solid table? Missed out on the red 8ft one for 150 earlier this week :/
Another one to consider is the Seville Classics UltraHD bench at Sam's. Very beefy with a 1.75" top and about $45 cheaper.

Yes, incredibly solid and very heavy.

Anyone have experience with this and the Sam's table to compare? The 3k vs 2k rating makes me think this one is a bit more solid. I have a humongous vise to put on it.

I agree with the problem with the back metal support and clamps, but I ended up cutting a small piece out of the metal to allow for a clamp. I use it as a desk and have 3 raised monitors, plus I added a shallow drawer underneath. I love it.

This is the problem with a lot of these workbenches. I'm wondering if you can just turn it around and use it backwards. Hopefully it won't hit your knees.

I was curious about that myself but the Sam's Club one doesn't look like it should really be weaker. The UltraHD bench has the crossbar connecting the legs in the back but also has crossbars at top of the legs front and back. The Gladiator has the one big, backplate connecting the legs. I feel like they'd probably end up being similar but maybe the UltraHD might work a bit better to prevent the top from sagging.

Using monitor arms, etc will probably cause the table to sag if used on the unsupported long end.

The UltraHD has 2 metal rails running the length of the bottom of the tabletop.

You have a point with the sagging.
If you're up to it, I'd like to tell you how I fixed this. I've been using a regular 4x8 3/4" pine sheet for over 5 years now with no sag. The same method I describe can be used here:

I set my Dewalt router up with a 1/8" bit, on a guide rail about 2 inches in from the edge of the wood. I have the depth set to about 3/8". I then router a straight line almost from edge to edge, about 2 inches from either end. Then I set the guide rail another half inch in, and make a perfectly parallel cut next to the first. I now have two parallel grooves, perfect for... C-channel steel! I then laid the steel into the grooves. Finally, I use the pre-cut holes in the C-channel for screws to secure it into the wood. Your wood table is now reinforced with steel and will never sag.

Super helpful! Thanks, even thought I just ruled it out because of the 25" depth. I'm sitting at a 30" desk at the moment and my 27" computer monitors are flush with the back (on vesa mount). If they were any closer it'd be too close.

I saw 6' Gladiator and thought it would be a cardboard cutout of Russell Crowe.

Worth mentioning 2000lb weight capacity vs the 3000lb from OP

I've been using Gladiator and also Husky workbenches as desks for about 8 years. I have two 8' Huskies and a 8' + 4' Gladiators. The depth of the Husky is 23" while the Gladiator is 25". Both work great but it's ideal to mount your monitors to save desk space. The Husky has a small accessible portion of desktop at the rear you could clamp a monitor arm to, but the backside of the Gladiator bench is blocked by the metal support (wall-mount only unless you mod your desk).

The Husky have a long metal cross-member that runs between the legs at a low position which I found annoying so I don't use them. Fine for a desk that isn't being shook back and forth laterally. Still feels very solid. The Husky also has a piece of metal frame running between the legs right under the bench top... so there is no mounting a drawer and you'll also need extra room for your legs to clear when seated (not really an issue for my body and preferred desk height).

Overall I prefer the Gladiator benches for the thicker top, lack of front frame piece and rear cross-member, deeper top, and more solid look.

Thanks for sharing, I see you drilled a hole for mount to pass through.
Any structure issue if you simply not install the back plate? What about lowering it and only screw it to the lower hole?

Using only as a desk, you could maybe get away without installing the back plate... but if anyone ever leaned on it you'd probably have trouble.

Your other idea would be better, although it is bolted to the wood all the way across the plate. You'd also need to drill a second hole because you'd want a minimum of the 4 legs bolts. Some have mentioned sagging, but it might depend on the weight you put on the surface. The wood is very substantial/thick.
