Hurry up guys, it won't last long. Then you'll have to wait until next month when it goes on sale for this price again...

I have this. Bought it for this price. Love it. I still find it suspicious that it's going for like 40% off of MSRP less than a year after it was released. Are not enough people paying to upgrade to Dirac so they gotta make it more tempting?

Btw, when I zoom my projector to cinemascope I can no longer see the volume OSD on screen, whether it's on top or bottom. My 2019 Denon had a bigger volume bar for the OSD and I didn't have this problem. I contacted Denon and they responded with boilerplate not helpful advice, so I have have to use the Denon app to change volume when I watch movies. 1st world problems for sure.

I mean, we're not, but I'll never say no to lower prices so that I can afford to buy more s__t.

I apologize for the potential that my comment has to detail the conversation. I am weak and take bait easily.

Wow, great price! Have this receiver, kinda makes me wished I waited but not really haha. I've been enjoying my 5.1.4 Atmos system. Only issue I have with this receiver is switching from one input to another, it loses HDMI handshake it seems. I have to power off the receiver to get the input back on. I should reach out to support about it. Other then that, really nice receiver.

If your current 7 channel receiver has 9 preouts(usually means can process 9 channels) then yes it should handle 4 in ceiling Atmos speakers with a two channel external amp.

If you're asking if this receiver can.
No need for an external amp it has 9 internal amps and can expand to 11 channels.
I'm in the same boat with a plan to go to 5.2.4. Some folks have argued that the x4800 is better as it has more power and the internals are made in taiwan (i think?) instead of China. Anyone have any thoughts on whether the 4800 is worth the extra 700-800 bucks?

I believe the argument is Japan vs Malaysia and yes the 4800 does has more robust internal power.

Whether that power is worth it depends on many factors like your speakers & how loud you listen.

Having auditioned both within my setup, I probably would have to say yes.
I would point out my speakers are 6ohm/89 sensitivity full range speakers, all 9.

Using an external amp I did not hear $700-800 sound difference, hardly any at realistic levels.

When I upgrade I usually end up with the 4xxx series, could not justify it this time since I use my AVR as a pre pro.
They made the 3800 to good for my situation.

How's this compare to the Onkyo rz50? I've been looking all the time to see if there's deals like this on the rz50 but I never see any!

Here is a good comparison of the differences that should help.
https://www.zkelectronics.com/com...o-tx-rz50/

The RZ50 has gone down to this price, if that's the one you want it should go on sale soon.

The biggest differences to me are. 1. rz price includes dirac, which is liked by a lot. You need to pay extra with Denon. 2. you may have 4 subwoofers with Denon 3800. This is important if you want a separate subwoofer just for midbass et al. I picked Denon for the options down the road.

Thanks that was a good read, they both seem like solid recievers thinks I'll hold out for the Onkyo to popup cheaper. The front hdmi port, THX and more power is something that pushed me towards that. Might regret not jumping on this Denon tho

I would point out:
#1 the RZ50 will not get the option for Dirac's DLBC, Denon will.
#2 the 2 subouts on the RZ50 are mono, all 4 on Denon's are independent.

Seems to be the everyday price on this now with continuous sales every weekend (Along with the X6700 popping up every other week @ $1599).

3800 > rz50
3800 has a number of features.
4 independent subwoofer
Bass shaker support
Possibility of DLBC support ( not yet guaranteed)
Auro 3D. With the recent support for Atmos layout this is my up mixer choice ( sometimes even for Atmos)

Other features I would add.
All channels are assignable & pre amp mode. I would also add Audyssey's directional sub calibration.

As far as DLBC, everything points to it being a done deal, only question is when in 2024.
Here is are a couple of examples:

Onkyo is slightly more powerful from what I can tell. The independent subs might be good someday for me but right now I'm pretty good on a single svs sub. There's not alot that set these 2 receivers apart from what I can tell. Does the denon 3800h have a fan? I've read the Onkyo has a fan inside it, I worry about fan noise but I've not seen anyone complain about it.

Reviews are not so good…. Don't believe Andrew as his reviews are paid for infomercials. https://youtu.be/ozhRVxAuOWE?si=kmIEPlWbm8vMO-Pn

Andrew is absolutely full of it. His videos are slick but his opinions are just head scratchers and I would wonder how neutral he is.

I tried out new Sony and Onkyo receivers this past year when looking to upgrade my Denon 4500. None of them -- which he raved about -- were nearly as good in my experience. I ended up going with the Denon 4800 but I'm sure if you can't afford or have a need for it, the 3800 would be a far better choice than the comparative OnkyoPioneers which are basically the same exact AVR with minor differences.

From personal experience I would have to agree, especially at this price!
I would add if you use external amps, the difference between the 4800 vs this, it's minor especially for the price difference.
