Grab moca adapter if you have coax nearby - you can get a pair of 2.5gbps rated frontier adapters on eBay for $65

As far as I know, the Asus AiMesh allows other Asus network devices to be added as nodes into the AiMesh network. I currently have a RT-AX3000 as my main node with 3 RT-AC68Us as mesh nodes. I'm going to try and swap out this setup with this 3-node ZenWifi and add the existing Asus devices as nodes. If that plan doesn't work, then I'll just return it.

Edit: I decided to pass on this coz it's only dual-band. The main reason that I wanted to replace my system is to remove the powerlines that I use for the Mesh setup. Powerlines limit the bandwidth significantly but still prefer it since the wired connection is stable. I will hold out for a Tri-Band setup instead.

This is a pretty well reviewed system for people with only 500Mbps plans and under, anything over that and you will be capping the potential of your ISP provided speeds.

5 acres is an enormous amount of coverage. What are the speeds outside?
I would not believe that exaggeration for even a split second. Most of these routers when it comes to signal die out anywhere between the 200-300ft mark in the most extreme of cases. So 5 acres is not happening at all.

I've never understood the point of mesh....you have to physically put these across your house, which means drilling holes in the wall to hide the ethernet cables.
For wireless mesh no drilling is required, they communicate as the name implies wirelessly. Even the dual bands like this unit will switch between bands on the fly to keep a wireless connection with other nodes and do a fine job providing internet. The WIRED backhaul is an additional feature that just allows you to free up the wireless bands so they can handle devices while the wired handles the node to node communication. Newer wireless mesh dual band units can still effectively handle as much as 800Mbps internet connections on their nodes, while triband can utilize over 1Gbps.

I have this system. I run a moca backhaul. Make sure to disable with wireless backhaul in the router settings so that you can unlock full bandwidth. The system reserves some bandwidth for wireless backhaul by default and isn't smart enough to disable it when the wired backhaul is connected. Performance is great. I have 300up/300down fiber and I can hit the 300 download no problem. With my particular setup I've never been able to hit the 300 upload in testing even right next to the main router AP. Ive tried all settings and even tried running a single node. This system does not seem capable of exceeding 200mb upload on wireless no matter what I try. my old router had no to go up to 300mb when close to the AP. For me I'm trading 100mb up for coverage and stability. Worth it in my case but if you are running symmetrical gigabit for example this may not be an advantageous tradeoff.

Oh that is unfortunate that you dont have coax already in the areas you need - if you need to run cabling then might as well just do ethernet then otherwise really see if you can reposition your equipment so that you can use the existing coax.
the moron fios installer cut all my coax saying you ain't going back to cable anyways... only realized i could have used the coax for all the extenders, what a moron

At the very edge of the five acres where the signal is lowest I get about 50% of my normal internet speed.

I have the RT-AX3000 router and the description say it's AiMesh compatible. So this still will not work? I have one area in the house with very weak signal and trying to see if I can strengthen the signal there. Thanks!

Never buy any used electronics on FB marketplace or CL, unless sealed in retail packaging. You could get a dud.

FYI - this may not work with Merlin WRT firmware for those that want that option.

Does that work with live coax? I have my attic antenna feeding through my cable connectors.

I am unsure - check out the "home netorking" group on reddit and ask there and I am sure somebody more knowledgeable than me can answer your question. I can imagine.. or check out this forum

Just received this mesh system and installed it. I have a medium-sized house and a 600 Mbps cable plan. My previous modem/router combo wasn't terrible - I was getting 480 mbps download speeds. However, that thing wouldn't enforce static IPs assigned to some devices. So I switched it to bridge mode and installed this mesh. Everything works better than expected! Complete coverage and 615 mbps download speed. Assigned static IPs are now working as well. I cannot be happier!

Are you getting 600+ on mobile devices? I have a WiFi 6 Orbi model and can't get much above 500 wireless on tablets and phones.

Can I use the existing coax connection running to my router, or do I need a second one?

I read the comments here and got even more confused.

Can someone explain like I am a total beginner?

I have a 3200 sqft house spread over 3 levels. The ARRIS wifi cable modem / router combo is right in the middle. There are serious dead zones in the house at the ends.

Will this help? Currently I have a TP link wifi extender on one floor and a net gear wifi extender on the other,
but all of them have thier limitations and frequently break.

WILL THIS HELP?
