They need to stop advertising that the RAM is DDR5-5600. I sent one of the 7700X models back because it was running at 5200mhz. Not only that but it came with 1yr of Lenovo Ultimate Support but it was flagged for generic support. I finally dug up the number for the "Ultimate Support" and had to argue with him because he was clearly not trained on this model and kept saying the Windows CMD "wmic memorychip get speed" is the actual speed it's running at, then he gave up and just said to file a return for it.

Turns out the marketing material and the docs for the AMD Gen 8's were not properly written when they released. The Ram is Samsung DDR5-5600 running at 5200mhz and if they had just allowed manual ram configuration in the BIOS then this would of never been an issue. Also the 4 pipe cooler they use is barely capable of cooling the 7700x, so I'd not expect the 7700 to get too high of a boost clock.

Does that mobo have Bluetooth 5.1?

This is important to note for everyone from the comments on Lenovo's website:

"Lenovo has disabled XMP on this machine which means you will NOT be able to add any additional memory and set the speed more than the default 4800MHz."

"Disingenuous about their ram speed and upgradability. Ram doesn't run at full speed. Bios is super limiting. Can't upgrade ram while remaining in warranty. And no ram is available that is within warranty, meaning there is no upgrade path to 32 GB while remaining in warranty. It's deliberate misrepresentation. It's false advertising. The product page even says you can upgrade."

I didnt see anyone insulting buying prebuilt, not sure what hurt your feelings enough to call names unprovoked.

Comparing to DIY prices is always a good measure of product value. So if you're not looking to build, you know about what premium you're paying for the complete package.

I can write off this computer as a business expense. I can't write off individual parts I buy and put a computer together.
Just FYI, you can write off any business related expense as long as you can prove it was for business if you happen to get audited. So whether it's prebuilt or custom, it doesn't matter.

Sure, building it on pcpp is where I got the price comparison from.

For gaming at this price point, a better value might be to go with the 7600 with 6950xt for $1234.

Edit: My bad, I didn't notice that case had gone OOS, so it'd actually be about $50 more than this build as the case is $63. Still, that's a lot more for $50.

The case comes with 4 fans preinstalled. The non-x 7700 CPU comes with the wraith prism cooler, which is more than capable.

You're gonna have a hard time explaining why you need a graphics card to run Microsoft office especially if your business doesn't have anything to do with video editing.

Vs buying a pre-built there's generally no questions asked especially if the itemized line item/receipt says Legion T5 Gen 8 Desktop.

Certain parts like ssd, ram, etc can be written off without issue. But you're going to get into a grey area when you have other parts that are clearly unnecessary.

I mean, I already explained pretty well why it isn't a great deal. It's retail for something with oddly poor specs.

Years ago, SD was a place to find deals posted that you wouldn't see anywhere else, along with tips or tricks to sweeten it. A lot of front page now is like "save $3 when you buy multiple family size package of a thing"...things which are really only great buys if it's something you already want or need.

Likewise, this deal is only good if you were looking for this cpu/gpu combo, don't want to or cant build, or wait for a better deal, and don't care about half the system specs.

You like it, buy it, I'm just saying what it is.
And nobody agrees with you.

You do you, brother.

While you're clearly not the only one who thinks paying retail plus $150 or more premium for a prebuilt with wonky specs is a "great deal" you also hardly speak for everyone here.

But I dont need anyone to agree with me in order to think that paying retail isnt a great deal. And you're certainly free to think that it is.

OK, I don't think it's a great deal, but this is miles from the reasons why. That CPU could even go with a 4090 just fine...
Just to be clear, I wasn't trying to bash the price and argue whether it was or wasn't a good deal. And yes, you could pair the 7700 with a 4090. But the 4090 would never get close to being fully utilized with that CPU and with only 16gb of RAM.

I bought the 7700x + 4070ti deal a couple months back. Computer is solid but their BIOS sucks. You wont be able to OC CPU. No AMD EXPO... any RAM other than OEM will run at 4800mhz 40CL and possibly crash your PC while gaming(did it to mine).

Overall, it's a solid well built computer for a good price if you don't plan on tinkering anytime soon. Just remember you will likely wanna replace the MOBO if you want faster/more RAM.

$850 actually. And the other components are all really cheap.

You can get a cheap b650m, 16gb 5600, 500gb gen4 nvme, case, and 500 PSU for a little over $300.

It's a bad combination of parts for more than you could build it for. For around the same price, you could have specs you'd actually want with a 7700/4070 combo.
Yes, pick your own cheap parts cause Lenovo uses cheap parts... that makes sense...
Replace cheap with cheap...
gotta luv these clowns in every pre-built deals...

Then why do you keep posting? I'm not going to agree with you. And no one else is agreeing with you. Are you seeking validation?
Because you're quoting me and it's giving me an alert. That's how online conversations work.

As far as validation, you're the one claiming "right by common consensus" instead of just addressing the points made and leaving at that. We've already agreed to disagree.
