I'm almost 40yrs old, and I've seen and watch TONS of movies, including being an AMC stubs member. A lot of people are slamming me but I watched this movie at the theater without having any expectation of it. And the movie made me laugh, cry at certain points uncontrollably, Sci-Fi elements, action. I think it also had to do with in upbringing of my childhood and never feeling I was enough. The constant struggle of the wife always looking for more, taking her husband for an idiot, when she had everything she needed all along. It was a very deep sentimental experience for me Coupled with the fact I'm a huge action and Sci-Fi fan with loads of hilarious ridiculousness. I've never seen a movie where, I'm laughing and crying at the same time. Paid full price upon release and have seen it 4 times total.
EEAAO #1 and probably Marcel the Shell with Shoes on were my favorite movies of 2021

It did well with the critics and I'll give it credit for originality / going off the beaten path but I didn't like it at all and wished I had walked out of the theatre. FYI when I saw it several people did walk out and as someone who has been going nearly every week (since the Moviepass days and now with AMC Stubs) - I've never seen so many walkouts before. It's a very polarizing movie.
I walked out of Asteroid City recently (only time this year) to give you a sense of my taste in movies - that too I thought looked original and interesting in the trailer (with strong cast) but it was boring and poorly executed
Your loss, those were two excellent films that were genuine, sincere and had something positive to say.
Seems like you enjoy walking out on movies you pay for. I'm curious what some of your favorite films of the last few years are?
I refused to see the movie when it first released because of the marketing campaign of 'can't explain what it is' nonsense. Like some people have said, it is quite a bit of absurdism that really just sort of casually floats across various genres but overall does a good job portraying a simple and interesting little slice of life story in a unique way. Very much 'experimental art project' vibes but with a bigger budget. It's a good movie though and it was refreshing to get more stuff in theaters than the constant big budget over cgi'd superhero movies or the low budget, safe return horror movies. I understand people not being a huge fan of it, but if the alternative to 'absurd' and 'unusual' is the plague of safe and uninteresting projects that have hit theaters, I'd recommend checking it out for the novelty alone and encourage companies to keep making at least some interesting projects.

Some folks love sauerkraut, oysters, and sweetbreads. Some people find those things vomit inducing. What a boring world this would be if we all liked the same things.
I just did not get this movie. At all. Even a little.
It's just one of the movies you either love or hate.
I watched it until the end. Took me a couple of tries to get going after giving up after a few minutes...
Mostly itnwas amusing. I didn't love or hate it. The premise was really good, but the goofiness threw me off.
I don't feel like it was a waste of time.

Exact same here my wife, my son and me - all the same, my son especially so, even sobbing at times.

For those of you who just "don't get it", I'm glad that you are able to understand at least that. To those who still haven't reached that conclusion, say it with me: it's ok to not like a movie. It's okay to be in the minority. To come up with untrue excuses and borderline conspiracies for how or why it won so many awards is a bit childish. But even children like fart jokes, and if you can enjoy a fart joke, I don't see what's so far-fetched about dildo/butt plug jokes. They add some levity and silliness to an otherwise very intense, emotional film.
I knew I was going to love it immediately after seeing the trailer. Maybe it's my being raised by immigrant parents, my love of martial arts, my enjoyment of video games (did you catch the Smash Bros home run bat Easter egg?), or my random philosophical/existential ponderances of the meaning of life. It's easily one of my favorite movies of the past decade. If you didn't experience as much joy, such is life. It goes on.
I purchased the blu-ray on release day and have since watched it 3 more times, with friends, who also enjoyed it. I'm due for a 4th soon.
This is a great deal if you're a fan or missed out on the theatrical release. The behind-the-scenes extras are great too. Really shows how much fun they all had making the movie.
The scene where the kid is suppose to be translating for their parents is triggering likely for every asian kid. After getting over that, I was entertained by it.

Watch at least 30 mins before you give up completely
Edit:
In general, the movie is about multiverse/parallel universes and everything being connected.
