Lol I paid $55 for it a month ago thinking it was a great deal. Looks like the deals keep getting greater. Meanwhile Apple charging hundreds for the same amount…

Apple will have everything soldered to the board making every Apple© product almost impossible to upgrade.

Should I purchase 1 to install into Synology Diskstation 1522+ that I just bought from the last Synology deal? I will install it as SSD cache upgrade for the NAS unit.

Edit: https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/864499
No, you want to buy a much more pro-level drive to use for Synology cache and you HAVE to buy a pair of them. There are a bunch of posts in reddit/r/synology/ I would read for that. Officially only the expensive Synology-branded NVME cards are supported of course, but check the recommendations on reddit for something that is battery backed (so no data loss), PRO level (so like TLC), a high DWPD (drive writes per day) rating, etc.

I bought the 1tb 970 EVO with free copy of Far Cry 5 for $339.99 in May of 2018. This is an impressive drop in prices.

Also my first ssd an Intel 80 GB X25M SATA II for $224.99 in March 2010.
Crazy right? I don't think most people even realize how exponentially faster tech is going to move now with the advent of Ai.

The covet of a new iphone, is speeding up tech advancement. However, they took the entire 3nm node for an entire year. Its ok, the 4090 is enough for now, and processors have options, depending what you are using them for. Android phones are plenty fast too. I feel like we can wait a year. Just that its pretty screwy that one company can styme the rest of the industry.
Edit: Consoles Pro versions take a hit on the delay. AI infrastructure possibly too.

Processor has nothing to do with drive interfaces supported by your motherboard. You need to look in the manual, it will tell you.

They're hustling to get AI going so they can eliminate what's left of our jobs 🙄

These are a great deal, might grab one for my spare computer, thanks OP

Seen 980pro 1TB for $49.99 a couple times recently. This price for older/slower seems less slick. Am I missing anything about these drives?
Nope. Tech is a bit dated (Gen 3) but if you have older systems that can only handle up to Gen 3, it's a perfectly fine cheap upgrade!

Amazing to look back on prices....

My Samsung 840 Prop SSD 256gb was north of $225 in 2014.

Amazing drive though....still use it on an MMC server running Ubuntu!

Makes me wonder if anyone is using AI to improve circuit board or microchip design...

It costs a lot for humans to do circuit design. Computers have been able to design them for decades - one of the reasons why AMD fell behind is they cut staff and relied on software. It works, but its not as optimized as when a human did it. Would be interesting to see if recent advancements can give us better results though.

My question was more to see if it's a good time to buy. I feel like a lot of times a good deal is posted only to be bested a few weeks later.
SSDs are in free-fall right now, if you buy now, a better deal will show up later...until it doesn't. The free-fall in prices will end sooner or later, and no one knows when.

Buy it if you need it.

If you don't need it, why buy it? If you don't need it, you can wait to see how much lower they go. Of course, you could wait too long and see the prices go back up again, but if you don't need it, you don't need it.

But they're getting so cheap per TB that even if you buy it now and the price drops, you're not going to "lose" a ton anyways.
