No problem with the rubber coated ones at all, unless you call dropping one on your foot a problem. 😝
Yes, you can use the handles for fireman's cary etc.
They still work and I like the handles, but I'll get irons next time.

ROM = Range of motion

Also, I've used similar rubber coated plates at the gym and the rubber ends up deteriorating and getting sticky. Not sure if it's due to the cleaning solution used or if it's from UV exposure, but something to note.
I don't think the above issue occurs to bumper plates.
I see this brought up every time these types of plates show up on this sub and it's kinda irrelevant and the geniuses who comment don't even understand the real issue.
1. If you just have these you're fine, nothing wrong with a little extra (minimal) ROM unless you're in some kind of formal competition. An inch difference means 1/2 inch lower.
2. If you do Olympic lifts and drop your weight, you could mess up your bumpers since these aren't designed to be dropped (hence the smaller diameter) and your bumpers would be carrying extra load. Most people, even those with bumpers, aren't dropping their weight (I'm not talking about a couple inches), so it really doesn't matter for your average SDer
That's it.

I find it slightly exciting to drop a deadlift at the top of the rep when using bumpers. Just because it is so unusual to be able to do that.
I found it also let's me continue to do more reps with less strain on my back in bad forms that sometimes happen when lowering weight
