It took close to 2 hours to install the first, between my reading the instructions and watching the install video a dozen times... The second install took less than an hour once I was familiar with and confident of the process.
Installing was easy in hindsight.
They do a great job cooling our bedrooms and will serve to ease the load of the central unit, reducing overall power consumption.

So I have one of those crappy $100 GE window units that makes a ton of noise 5k btu. and I recently replaced it with the Midea 8k BTU.
First off the Midea is extremely quiet. just sounds like a low static from the fans blowing, you can barely hear the compressor, you wont hear it unless the room is dead silent.
Now for some reason, my little 5k btu inefficient ac, seems to cool the room much faster, and can go significantly colder since Midea lowest allowed temp is 60F. the closer midea gets to its target temp, the slower it goes will while trying to achieve it, at least on auto mode. My huskies no longer felt comfortable enough to sleep on the bed with my wife, since it was not cold enough.
Also the noise made from the older 5k btu window ac seems to be the perfect white noise to sleep too, its not blaring loud, yet the sound covers a huge range, so it covers up the sounds of wood expanding and contracting, dogs paws pacing around, people in the living room. ( incase you need to sleep during the day for a night shift). Something about its noise gets associated with comfortable hotels at the end of a vacation day, or just relaxing time at the end of a workday, and helps settle you.
There is no scheduling on the device itself, I might need to connect it to the wifi to do this. while I work IT, I will say that I don't believe in connecting any AC the internet, as they have been automatically shut off remotely from outside agencies during heatwaves and such in the past.
With the older ac, there's no smart tech, nothing sensitive about it. I can stick it on a manual timer, or Alexa plug and schedule it however I want, without the concern of the timer breaking it.
long story short. although I love the Midea, perfect for an office room, guest room, living room, etc. But for my specific purpose of cooling down 1 room instead of the whole house for sleeping, I will most likely go back to my older crappier, lightly rusted, inefficient, noisy 5k btu window ac.

R12 cooled way better... But unfortunately it's now illegal, it's bad for the environment, so all AC units now have to use the R410a.
I have one of those old 5k units too, I'll keep it until it dies.
For the Midea, keep it on cool instead of auto and turn off the eco mode, and it'll keep the compressor running and should get your room cooler. If you want it cold, just keep it on dehumidify mode which will run the compressor constantly

do you feel like you need to drill the window bracket?
With a big 4 monitor gaming desktop and a server rack the central air cant keep this room cool without freezing the rest of the house.
Mine was damaged in shipping but still works so I kept it.
Kinda want to get this as a backup and just hold onto it, that should also mean the backlog at HD is not an issue for me and I can stack 10% off with military.
Its quiet enough I can do recording in here without the noise being picked up on my microphone.
