I would go with the 85" TCL Q7 for $1599 over this. The X85K is pretty much the X80K with 120hz and the X80K is a terrible TV as far as brightness and contrast go. The TCL Q7 is a class above and actually has a much higher peak brightness and is up there though rated slightly below the Sony X90K, TCL R655 (no longer available) and Hisense U8H. The R646/655 is no longer available and the Hisense has its own set of "Hisense" issues so if the X90K is out of your price range then the Q7 is the next best

TCL quality is absolute bottom of the barrel. Sony over TCL any day of the week. Not to mention Sony doesn't embed spyware into their televisions like TCL and Hisense.
Before the usual retort of 'TCL makes displays for X/Y/Z now because they bought Samsung's display business' is sent - TCL will continue to put their bottom of the barrel components into the TVs which are the primary source of failures with TCL.

I've had a brand new 75" TCL fail after just 3 years, LED strip blew out. Never will buy that crap again

TCL is very highly rated nowadays. Obviously not top tier like Sony but for cost/performance for non OLED TVs TCL is king. Sony over TCL overall? sure but the Q7 > X85K by a long shot, it's not even close

Yes, because ratings are almost always within the first 30 days of purchase. The component failure in TCL (regardless of model because they ALL use the same components) is *very high. Did I mention the embedded spyware?

Go on any TV forum where they dissect TVs down to a science and you'll see everyone recommending TCL over everything except for Sony. That includes Samsung and LG. If the failure rate were that high they would blacklist it like they've done with Samsungs QLED TVs and all Hisense TVs

Conversely, go on any website where TCL's are purchased (excluding TCL's own website) and read the 1 star reviews of constant failures. Don't know what to tell you - TCL's have an exceedingly high failure rate of their components. This is well documented by people who actually own them (or multiples.)

I don't even know what that means - who is "they" and what is this "blacklist" "they" would add TCL's to? You're making stuff up now.

TV forums/ reddit. There's a massive writeup on which TVs are bad and why and it includes longevity/ failure rate. Hisense and Samsung are amongst the worst with only the top Samsung/LG models being worth looking at and no Hisense models at all are recommended due to terrible QA and customer support. You say i'm making stuff up but when I google "TCL Failure" the whole first page has good things to say about TCL TVs minus the Quora post from 2017
I have this TV and got a steal on an open box for $950 at Best Buy.
The TV is incredible and I am very happy with the contrast as well as the responsiveness. Just my 2 cents.
