Quick math assuming you are ok with Visible/Mint at $30/mo - overpaying by $45/mo for 36=$1620, that's what you are paying for the "free iphone".

It saves us $110 a month which is equivalent to us buying a new phone every two years outright and trading our old phones into Apple to pay for part of the upgrade, and still having a couple of hundred $ left in our pockets.
Plus we can use the extra money to pay for streaming services we actually use rather than Disney+ and ESPN+ which we never used.
That said... I only pay $25/mo for visible and I'm virtually always on wifi; I couldn't care much less about cellular data, but I have noticed occasionally that, even with adequate LTE signal, sometimes things just won't load.

They've done it on some iphone models (it's how I got my SE 2 for like $200 in 2020)... but for a brand new flagship iphone model as soon as it's available? Seems unlikely...
Nice, that would be pretty slick.. I'm (tentatively) trading in my XR for $140 via Apple's trade-in program (only paid $50 for it earlier this year via Slickdeals), but I might just give it to my niece as her first phone instead.
Also didn't get credits for months. Took multiple trips in store. Eventually they cut me a full check for the full amount of credits.
So much hassle. Was never disappointed with Costco and Apple so much before.

That minimum $75 plan requirement looks suspicious to me. I'm guess that limit doesn't apply for people upgrading and on a family plan (where each line is quite a bit less than $75), but I can't figure out how to get into the upgrade checkout flow.
