The fine print says minimum qualified plan is 75/mo. That's where they get you with these "free deals" - locking you in at high monthly rate for 3 yrs.

Quick math assuming you are ok with Visible/Mint at $30/mo - overpaying by $45/mo for 36=$1620, that's what you are paying for the "free iphone".

If you live in an area which has good coverage then better buy an unlocked phone and get a carrier of your choice than getting robbed by these guys for 36 months.
I have an unlocked phone & pay $20 per month for service. Can't be happier.

This. I rather pay the phone outright and go with boost mobile which is ATT sub and it has great signal in my work and home area.

Did you do this in-store or online? And was it at a specific Costco T-Mo kiosk?
In-store at T-Mobile kiosk inside Costco

doesn't seem to allow you to upgrade an existing iphone that is already on AT&T. they want you to drop the old line, and add a new one.

Any way around this?

Do they ship the phone to you or do you need to pick it up? And do they have all options? i.e. the options on Costco.com are very limited.

You're right that for many people it's better to go elsewhere due to lower plan costs. There is a sweet spot for some on AT&T, though. I pay $22.50/line before taxes/fees ($28.63 all in) for starter or $26.25 for Extra. That price requires one of the appreciation discounts (teacher, healthcare, etc), autopay, and at least 5 lines so definitely not for everyone. Combining that with the trade in deal and this Costco deal and I think it's worth a 3 year lock in for some. Even if you only value the trade in credit at $200 over what you could sell the phone for, that's $200 + $100 Costco card + $50 billing credit = $350. That's $9.72/month for 36 months bringing Starter down to an effective $12.78/month

Unfortunately I found out about this deal after my Apple order was too far along to cancel.

These are the calculations I was just doing.
It's actually cheaper for me to buy from apple with military discount (and crap trade-in)
Than to switch to one of these ridiculous high-prices plans and only receive bill credits.

I did it at Costco in-store. You need to be on Magenta Max or equivalent plan to get $650 for iPhone 11. If you switch to their newer Go5G plan, you get $1000 for iPhone 11, but plan is like $60 a month more than Magenta plans. The only difference between doing at Costco vs T-Mobile online is the extra $75 Costco gift card per phone and no upgrade fees. Plans are all same.
Thank you

I see what you did there. Make a blanket statement that isn't true then sneak in "with First Responder". I bet T-Mobile employees get cheaper plans on T-Mobile than T-Mobile employees get on AT&T!!!
Not just first responders get discount? Medical, military, veterans, teachers etc too.

FWIW I just called T-Mo through the T-Mo Costco phone number listed on Costco's site and the whole process, including initial wait time, took less than 45 minutes to complete my upgrade. So, if you don't live close or feel like venturing out, this is a solid option. Process was super easy.

2 questions as I'm seeing mixed answers for one of them.
1) Do I need to provide IMEI or trade in device immediately or can I wait until after I receive iphone 15? Meaning, can I preorder now with trade in, buy Samsung s20, wait until I get s20 to trade in and provide details after receiving new iPhone?
2) does the $100 only apply to new added lines or does also apply to just upgrades on lines?

Thanks!

This is probably a stupid question but I'm going to ask anyway. I currently have 8x iPhone 14 Plus and 8x lines with ATT. I pay $5 a month per phone with 28 months left with $20 a month per line bill credits. I know this is a solid deal ($180 per phone after 36 months) but I would like the 15 Pro Max if possible. Is there any way to upgrade with this current offer?

I believe you would need to pay off the remaining balance on the current phone first. The existing bill credits would stop and be replaced by the new trade in credits. It's unlikely to be a good deal if you still have 28 months left.

1000% agree. Makes me mad because back in the day I'd avoid it by just buying a new phone and slapping my old sim in.. no fees. But now you have to involve them with the esim garbage.
