This would have been slick, but why is the tax 32.22%? I could pick this up tomorrow in LA, but the $91.83 tax kills the $284.99 deal for me.

S23+ here... Processor is amazing, no more heavy webpages struggles. Battery life is good (2days 19 hours vs 2days 1hour with my s21+)
The only thing i may don't like is that ratio is now 19.5/9 vs 20/9 before S22..
So s23+ looks chubby but nothing compared to the s23ultra monster chubby.
For s23ultra you need a man purse

Brand new , sealed s23 ultra for around 700. LoL. A sucker is born everyday.
Yeah, you. Throughout my lifetime I have bought tons of new phones sealed on OfferUp and Craigslist you just have to check very frequently and be one of the first. I have gotten many amazing deals online. Some people just don't want to look. But believe whatever you want. Hell if I care 🤣🤣

You have to do it separate. Don't pick the option that they give you. Order your S23U with trade in. Go out, order S9U with trade in.

This is a pretty good deal, but I sworn against using Samsung phones as my main driver since the S7 due to the inability to unlock the bootloader in order to root their devices. Curious to know if anyone's had any success unlocking the bootloader for this version of S23...

I have a measly s21 Fe to trade in and only getting $300 dropping the price to $900. I can buy a new sealed s23 Ultra on offer up for around $700 and sell my phone to get to for substantially lower.
You can also get your ass kicked on offerup or craig list too.

In California there is $100 tax so it's like $400 and next years trade in will be another $100 tax and the year prior phone's usually have just $200 less trade in. On just value wise here in Cali it's better to go every 2 years. That being said with the added trade in value and getting my s8+ upgraded to the s9 ultra for $88 I decided to pay the $200 in tax and do a trade in even though I did it last year too.
I guess that's one good way to look at it. On a side note, generally logic for sales tax is how much "cash" is exchanged between two trading partners. So, in my case, I am only paying sales tax on actual cash I am paying and it's naturally lower for us.

But, it looks like Cali is using a different logic-how much "payment" you are making for the trade, and "payment" could be in shape of tangible item not necessarily cash. Hence, they are looking at cash value of the tangible item, in this case the *value* of the trade in which is I believe 900 for S22U. Thus, your taxes are on 900+285=1185. Note that, tax is probably NOT on MSRP which could be inflated thousands in marketing gimmick. Also note, there is never a tax on "discount" that are deducted by Samsung.

Sales tax is most likely on cash trade in value + the price of phone after discounts (subtotal).

I would try to have it shipped to neighboring states or something to avoid this much robbery, if possible and worth it.

I have a Samsung s9 for trade, can samsung trade it for 900?
Everyone laughing but the trade-in values for anything from last couple years are meh at best
I still can't believe I missed out on the Google fi deal from earlier this year, $300 savings on top of $310 trade in value for iphone 11 or something like that

threw the dice and ordered. I had 128gb s22 ultra. Needed the battery life improvement on s23 ultra. total breakdown came to 1379(retail) - 180(promotional) - 900(trade in) -15(student discount) - 25(first time store purchase) = 259 + tax =344. Hope it was a good deal
its a crazy deal. people keep saying barely any difference from s22u to s23u etc etc except battery etc - yeah mostly true except you're going from freaking 128gb TO 512GB man.

more ram, QUADRUPLE storage for that price, and let alone the battery.
its a no brainer deal.

i too had a 128gb s22 ultra that was fresh and just unboxed. i took it on one 3 week trip to korea and japan, and its storage is already more than half. wont have to worry about storage with 512gb for a while, least til the next upgrade.

Just like someone commented above there really isn't any reason to upgrade phones if you have the S22 Ultra 5G which is my case. $376 shipped after taxes here in CA and with the S22 Ultra 5G trade in. Only difference between the two is a slightly faster processor and more megapixels, not with the almost $400 in my opinion.

Here is a link to their comparison:
