True, however in my experience they are very durable. I've broken one piece of Corelle in the last decade. Wine glasses... I've broken enough to host a wedding
Exactly. I'm surprised that the discussion is about how they break, rather than the fact that these are insanely durable, lightweight, and made in America.

I bought my set at Costco about 10 yrs ago. It still looks brand new. I wanted something lead-free (Corelle stopped putting lead in their dishes in 2005) and light enough for little kids to use. I initially tried Fiesta (also made in USA) but too heavy.

Oh, and we haven't broken a single piece.

Obviously y'all have ones that have held up wonderfully over like 20 years, but has anyone bought ones recently and have any thoughts? So many times I've gone with a brand I loved in the 90s/early 00s and ended up with a piece of junk that WISHED it was the older ones 😔

My wife had nice stoneware when we met. After more and more pieces broke and chipped over time (and several shattered into millions of tiny razors upon falling to the tile floor in our previous home), I eventually found a Corelle set on Woot for stupid cheap, and in a pattern she liked. Ten years and two children later, I think exactly one cereal bowl from that set has broken, when our then-five year old dropped it fully laden onto solid brick. Several pieces have survived higher falls (albeit empty) completely unscathed.

We're slowly collecting Fiestaware serving pieces, but I'll stick with Corelle for the stuff that gets used and abused the most.

We've had our corelle for almost 15 years. The stuff is durable and timeless.

However, since we started having kids, we break the stuff a lot. I would say something is breaking every month or two. I second how difficult it can be to clean up. We vacuum it after also, but invariably there's small pieces that turn up days or weeks later. And it's glass, so those pieces can hurt, especially little toddler feet.

Take it for what you will. We still use the stuff and love it. We minimize how much Corelle the kids use and we just buy the risk that it'll break from time to time.

My dishwasher has eroded the edges of my corelle plates. I have my Mom's corelle bowls from the '90's and the dishwasher hasn't touched the edges. still the best plates to use for kids.

I have this fancy, newfangled invention called a VACUUM! It sucks up all the little broken pieces.
Glass is super bad for your vacuum.

I own both. I would say they look and feel the same and have the same property. Even if Ikea material is inferior, we are talking about One Forth of the price here. I can afford to break a couple.
Our Ikea stuff is less than a year old and already had chips. Our 5 year old Corelle stuff looks brand new.

Definitely check everything out as soon as you receive your order. We ordered a Veranda set from Corelle's website a few months ago and there were a ton of factory defects present. Many plates with chips of glazed pattern missing, a couple plates with colored glaze randomly splattered in the middle of the plate, borders that were off center, some plates were out of round with misshapen wavy sides that didn't stack properly. I guess we got a bad batch that snuck past quality control?

We reached out to Corelle to complain, and they just wanted photos of the defects before sending out replacement pieces. Not too big a hassle. Just make sure to give everything a look over if you're not putting them into use right away.

YMMV. My Ikea plates are on their 3rd year. They may not look like new but none have chips or cracks. Since they are so cheap, I don't really handle them with the greatest care either.
