1200 TBW is pretty common for 2TB drives. P44 Pro, Platinum P41, SN850x, 980/990 Pro all have the same rating. If you're familiar with NewMaxx, this comment pretty much sums up TBW ratings these days: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc...t/jy0az2p/

If your use case requires a substantial endurance increase, you would have to get a bigger SSD and/or use nvme-cli to modify the overprovisioning.

Yeah, you're not wrong. It's just too bad that all those downvotes are going to lead people to believe this SSD won't work when it will work just fine. The speed is slightly lower than Sony's recommendation, but that hasn't mattered yet and likely never will.

Is the only difference between this and the Solidigm NVME drive also on the FP just the read and write speeds?
Yes but with some more like QLC vs TLC and an SLC cache and HMB buffer.

Sure wish I knew what that meant. I assume the Lexar is far better, correct?

Solidigm has QLC nand and Lexar has TLC. Neither controller has DRAM, but both support HMB.

It really depends on what you're using it for...but I doubt you'll really notice much of a difference between the two. TLC nand will generally have a higher TBW and faster speeds after the cache is exhausted compared to QLC.

The P41 Plus is a decent drive though for money. I don't really think the Lexar is a good buy considering drives like the Platinum P41, P44 Pro, and SN850x have all been in the $100 range for 2TB recently.

1200tbw is quite crazy number. I have 1TB that I use for games and after 5 years it is now at 10 tbw. Moral of story: you will install once and access small bits of data repeatedly

Is higher tbw needed if always on and running vms on something like esxi or proxmox?

Not if you use it as a cache drive for something like ZFS.
