How does this work, I just don't get it and photos online are not helping. I assume this must work in tandem with something else (probably OEM specific).

Good product. Sturdy steel. Mounted to top edge of slider so bolt goes through stationary patio section. Replaced a worn out spring bolt installed in that location with no new drilling required.

Prime line makes good products. I have their door latch and it is of extremely high quality. However, this is a waste of money. If they are going to break in, they are not going to bother with prying your patio door open. they are simply going to smash the glass and get in.

I've always just used a wooden dowel. Can't defeat a piece of wood that keeps a sliding door from sliding. Granted the key feature is nice

smash and grabs sure, but a lot of crooks try doors and move on until they find one not locked or secured. (targets of opportunity). Or trying to sneak in at night when people with alarms don't arm them. They used to use shovels under the sliding door and lift the door as high as possible to defeat hook latch, and it was silent, unlike smashing glass and attracting attention. These locks and dowels and other means prevent that. We were taught this at a neighborhood watch meeting by the local popo
Lots of light on entryways, extra lock enforcing measures, alarm system signs = deterrents

Description says "prevents lifting sliding door with prybar". The installation suggested in this image does not do that at all.

The image from Depots installation sheet has it mounted vertically on the movable panel with the pin going into the fixed panel. Or mounted on top of a movable panel with pin going into the fixed panel on a window.
