Slightly better version of Walmart but, as soon as you deal with their customer service you would feel you're in Walmart.
They are saying it's going to be $19.99 for a 1 year membership (regular not Plus) and on top of that you get $10 off your first in-store purchase which effectively makes it $9.99 for the 1 year membership (regular not Plus).
This used to be free with extra coupon as well.

Shopping at Sam's is like shopping at Walmart, not for me
"Sam's Club" is named after Sam Walton, also the guy who founded Walmart. It's the same company, so you're not that far off in your assessment.

That's largely regional.

In CA, it's not even worth it to get in line and wait for Costco gas during peak hours.

You're saving, what, maybe $5 once a month?

Doubling up on must haves and going longer between trips is far more economical.
Not sure if you read my comment correctly. The purchase of a 10 dollar membership at Sam's saves the headache of waiting in line at Costco. Agreed that spacing out the visits to buy stuff is more economical. But let's be real. You're not getting warehouse memberships to save money. You're getting it to spend more money. And that's the majority. We live in a spending economy. Not saving.

I have to defend Sams club here. I think Sams club came a long way and offers products that as good as Costco's often at cheaper (especially produce) and "Scan and Go"alone worth shopping there over Costco never ending lines even with newly added self check out. May be it's regional but I don't have problem with customer service at either two Sams club I go to (one of them is definitely better though). My only wish they would sell Top Tier gas like Costco but alas can't have everything.
Those who wonder you can keep switching between new memberships at Sams. But I gave up on it after I switched to Plus membership it gives me enough cash back to pay membership fee every year.

I joined last time this deal came around out of curiosity as a long-time Costco shopper.

I agree the experience itself wasn't great. Poor lighting, worse pizza in the food court, spills that weren't getting cleaned up, etc.

I joined because they carry a few products I like that Costco does not (Old Spice deodorant, Puffs tissues) but that's not enough to get me there regularly.

I'd be curious to try Plus for the free shipping but I haven't been able to bring myself to pay the upgrade yet.

The only reason I am signing up for sams club is to buy pasture raised eggs.

I suppose it's probably regional too. Sam's Club near me is always clean and well lit. I mostly go there because it's closer but I don't really have a big preference between Sam's and Costco, or at least the ones near me.

The only redeeming feature is the Scan and Go.

Beyond that, it's just Costco for self-induced diabetics.
Long back in the 90s the US commercial food market becomes self induced diabetic and obesity hub of the world, when they started lying about processed food, sugar alternatives like high fructose corn syrup and canned foods that last forever that's the time the corporation along with government started playing with people life.
I remember back in days when we don't have this crap called organic food, because everything used to organic, I remember when we used to get milk bottles in our suburbs delivered daily at our steps, my grand father used to tell me, any food that don't get spoiled in a few days are not the real food.

Their member's mark items are of pretty good quality, and most of the times, cheaper than the kirkland signature equivalents

I totally do not understand. Are you saying it will be $10 off for Sam's Club Plus membership? That is $10 off of $110, correct? I do not understand next in-club Purchase $19.99 - $19.99. Are you saying that the next item we purchase costing exactly $19.99 we get for free?
Groupon has better deals in Sam's Club memberships.
