Slightly better version of Walmart but, as soon as you deal with their customer service you would feel you're in Walmart.

They are saying it's going to be $19.99 for a 1 year membership (regular not Plus) and on top of that you get $10 off your first in-store purchase which effectively makes it $9.99 for the 1 year membership (regular not Plus).

That and the gas. I save the electronics for Costco for their return policy. I cycle through Sam's club membership to buy consumables and clearance season items. Time saved is worth it for me.
While their gas is SLIGHTLY cheaper than Costco, it's not Top Tier rated. No way I'd use their fuel on any vehicle I intend to keep for more than a year.

Agree, Sams is way ahead in terms of scan & go, instore pickup etc while Costco recently
introduced self checkout and still have reps standing by each kiosk to assist members.
Not sure about the rational there.

Where Costco is better is, in finding those products hyped up by social media.
Also trying to search anything in the Costco app is horrible.

Any reason to get Sam's club if I have a Costco closer?
More places to get a last minute cake or use a bathroom if you're in a bind.

Weird, my local Sam's is top tier gas. It looks like it varies by area. Usually Costco in my area is cheaper unless you have the Sam's credit card that has extra cash back for gas.

Like others, I prefer Costco for big ticket items due to their unbeatable return policy. Sam's I prefer for food and other items as they have more variety than Costco. Love the Scan & Go, and their website is top notch compared to Costco. Costco seems to be stuck in 1980's in terms of their tech. Although I hearfd from one of their managers they have been upgrading it recently.

Costco used to have also great mobile phone deals but that went away when the company that ran the mobile ended the contract with Costco. Now is just T-Mobile or AT$T regular scammy deals with 2 year contracts.

I usually buy membership for all 3 . bjs costco and sams. bjs and sams you can get for cheap membership like $20 each. while i shop costco, sometimes bjs and sams have better food prices and less distractions unlike costco .

Everyone's priorities are different, but for me our Costco is closer but I go to Sam's Club whenever possible. There are a couple things we prefer from Costco, but I totally enjoy going to Sam's Club vs despising having to go to Costco.

Costco is Chaos. Parking is torture. Checkout lines go far back into the aisles. Yes, they have self-checkout but that line can be longer than back to the endcap with flowers (LONG). Again more a personal preference but everything is becoming Kirkland and while it's made by some mystery brand name manufacturer, why am I paying a membership fee to buy the store's own brand?

Sam's club parking is 100 times better. I have PLUS membership and can go as early as 8AM before the store opens to the public. They have most of everything Costco has (and of course unique items Costco doesn't and vice versa). The thing that is the greatest -- Scan-n-Go in the Sam's Club app. Scan items with your phone, put in cart and when finished shopping, pay in the app and leave the store. No checkout lines (which are, to be honest, way shorter than Costco).

All in all, for me, I am happier after shopping at Sam's. Less stress. And there isn't anything we've bought at Sam's that we said was lesser quality than the same item at Costco (except Sam's rotisserie chicken which is smaller than Costco and we do go to Costco for that and for a local brand of sourdough bread our Costco sells).

We get our gas at Costco as our Sam's does not have a gas station. The money back from buying gas each years easily pays for the cost of the Costco membership.

Shopping at Sam's is like shopping at Walmart, not for me
I have a Sam's and Costco card and I shop at Walmart sometimes. Each one has their purpose and I buy from each one all the time. I understand the Costco people are almost elitist because they think Sam's is it for a lower class of people. Not sure why when something comes up for Sam's, Costco people have to comment how bad it is. If you don't like it, don't go to Sam's and stay out of the threads that are for Sam's.

Having worked at a Walmart supercenter, I learned not to trust food at Walmart stores. While I suspect it happens at most grocery chains, I've seen everything from a cockroach inside a bag of pork rinds to finishing a busy day at a grocery store, finding frozen food in the magazine rack in front of my register (that was probably sitting in my lane for the better part of the day) and being told to place the items back, I can't see myself trusting the food.

Combine that with the fact that while Costco prices are just a tad higher, but that they provide fair wages to their employees and my tax dollars don't go towards subsidize Walmart employees that make low enough wages to qualify for government assistance (my tax dollars), I prefer the Costco model.

Been using SAM's gas in my Toyota's for years, never had any issues. Gas is just as good as the gas you buy from most major providers.

Sam's Club gas is not top tier, but it is considered a high-quality gas and Sam's Club assures a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. While Sam's Club gas is not certified top tier, there are reports that the gas is supplied by providers such as Shell, Mobil, and Chevron, so customers still get a high-quality product.

I think it really depends on the store.

My current Sam's is absolutely awful. Nobody at the counter, calling just forwards to a call center in a different country. Getting tires rotated required an appointment months out.

On the other hand, my parents have been super happy with the service at their club.

I joined last time this deal came around out of curiosity as a long-time Costco shopper.

I agree the experience itself wasn't great. Poor lighting, worse pizza in the food court, spills that weren't getting cleaned up, etc.

I joined because they carry a few products I like that Costco does not (Old Spice deodorant, Puffs tissues) but that's not enough to get me there regularly.

I'd be curious to try Plus for the free shipping but I haven't been able to bring myself to pay the upgrade yet.
Worse pizza at Sam's. Uh, no. I'm a Costco member, but Sam's has way better piza compared to the single topping only Costco version. I refused to order Costco pizza after they screwed us over, removing the supreme topping version. all because of "cost savings" during Covid. Covid is over. Why haven't they brought it back?
