For those of you who don't know what this is:

This is a small travel router that connects to an ethernet port of an existing network, OR can be connected to an existing Wi-Fi network and used to create your own personal Wi-Fi network but this router uses a VPN to mask your traffic when used.

It can also be used on Visible to share a phone connection with multiple devices but you will be required to use a TTL hack to make it work.

There are a few ways, the one I use is:
1. Connect phone/laptop to captive login wifi.
2. Connect GL.iNet to power
3. Log in to GL.iNet web interace
4. Change GL.iNet router MAC address to the same as that of your phone/laptop.
5. Connect GL.Inet to hotel WiFi, and it'll work.

A big use for this is also when you have a hotel that charges for, and limits the number of devices that connect to wifi. This isn't as common in the US anymore, but still common internationally. Also, if you have a ton of electronics with you, having this would save you from having to reconfigure each device for the new SSID.

Side note, I have this and it works great, the VPN works well too.

I have had something similar (just bought this one for an upcoming trip) back in the day which was invaluable for a few reasons.

1. The Web GUI is usually fairly simple to use and navigate
2. Being able to (before your trip) plug in the device and connect all your items to it ahead of time is such a game changer.
3. Cloning MAC Address is usually fairly straight forward since there is no way to login to various wifi web UI pages for login
4. Most of these smaller devices are USB (YMMV regarding the next part) What we did on a family vacation is brought our older one (i have 5 siblings with kids) and brought a 20k MAH portable charger, we then connect the router to someone's mobile hotspot and shared wifi with the whole group on the go! it was amazing, ipads tablets laptops etc all getting internet for youtube etc was great!
5. everyones use case will be different but i just welcomed my first child and we are going on a trip, i want to make sure our Miku (baby monitor) works flawlessly so when there is a nanny watching the kiddo we can feel safe knowing we can keep eyes on her. I do also like to bring my chromecast as hotel tv offerings are usually crap or have costs for some things.

i have not personally used this device but have a much older type of device (just ordered this one). I simply login from phone or tablet to hotel wifi and then clone the mac address. has worked numerous times for me.

That's absolutely incorrect. It does work and it works well.

Question: What is the purpose of Sharing Wifi network using this if that wifi is already shared to all?
We travel a lot. In flight Wi-Fi ends up costing like 10 or 20 bucks per flight per person. Or you can buy a year pass for 100 bucks or so.

With this, we'd be able to just have one account tied to the router and then me and two family members can connect to the router and not have to pay for separate wifi accounts.

I assumed people talking about using it for cruises are in the same boat.

Airplane wifi internet allows only 1 device (Mac address) per each payment.

I just got back from a work trip and used one of these.

Firmware for it is fully updated.

What I did for the captive portal was.
1.turned on router.
2 connected to it with my laptop
3 opened thje router admin webpage.
4 Connected to the hotel wifi from the router using the webage.
5 The captive portal should either open automatically on your laptop/device web browser or open a new tab.

That was it. I made sure the vpn was off before I did all that and did not turn it on until I was able to log in into the captive portal.

Mind you, you might have to do this every day unless the hotel gives you an option to pay for the "fast" connection with multiple days.

After running over an hour, it is becoming overheated , the built-in noisy small fan starts roaring ...
No router is crappy like this...
it is only suitable for random occasional use.
I've read from other comments the fan noise was quiet on the MT3000. When it got loud did you have a lot of users connected?

Ahhhh, horsecrap!!!! I use this router a LOT in hotels that do just for their internet, and it WORKS just fine. Use the router web-based interface (very intuitive btw), find hotel network, and connect. Browser will auto-direct you to the hotel's WiFi login page and that's it. Actually, it works better than connecting directly to the hotel WiFi with your laptop alone. The router keeps a persistent connection, even when you take your device with you, so when you come back, your device quickly connects to the router, skipping hotel's login page altogether You can also configure it for VPN internally for extra security. 100% recommend if you travel a lot.

whats the difference between this vs just bringing your home router with you, other than that home routers are a bit bigger?

I got the MT1300 on Prime Day in July 2022, it's always on connected to my primary modem at my home. Solid device, no issues so far and that room can get hot during the summer.

The fan is driven by the CPU/board temperature, not how many users get connected .
normally when it used after an hour, the fan starts running, with the CPU temperature increasing, the fan speed increases , also its noisy. the MT1300 is not a comparable device. This Beryl AX has 2.5Gb ethernet port which is its sale point , but it generates most heat from there, even most people never uses that. MT1300 is cheaper and quieter , low power consumption, and much pratical than Beryl AX AX3000

This has a lot of travel-centric features. Like a physical toggle switch that (you choose what you it does): turn whole-network Adblock on/off, connect to a VPN so all of its traffic is encrypted, or even activate a VPN killswitch to make sure that your traffic is ONLY encrypted (no VPN=no internet). It's all stuff you COULD do in a larger router, but would take more configuration.
