For those of you who don't know what this is:

This is a small travel router that connects to an ethernet port of an existing network, OR can be connected to an existing Wi-Fi network and used to create your own personal Wi-Fi network but this router uses a VPN to mask your traffic when used.

It can also be used on Visible to share a phone connection with multiple devices but you will be required to use a TTL hack to make it work.

There are a few ways, the one I use is:
1. Connect phone/laptop to captive login wifi.
2. Connect GL.iNet to power
3. Log in to GL.iNet web interace
4. Change GL.iNet router MAC address to the same as that of your phone/laptop.
5. Connect GL.Inet to hotel WiFi, and it'll work.

A big use for this is also when you have a hotel that charges for, and limits the number of devices that connect to wifi. This isn't as common in the US anymore, but still common internationally. Also, if you have a ton of electronics with you, having this would save you from having to reconfigure each device for the new SSID.

Side note, I have this and it works great, the VPN works well too.

Could I set this device up at my brothers house to somehow route my smart tv's to his place to share his IP to bypass Netflix in house password sharing?

Asking for a friend…

do you have the link for the business side? I don't see the coupon when adding it to the cart...
I used the same link as OP
Code:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BPSGJN7T/
The coupon only showed for me after the product was in the cart, when viewing all cart items. Then I was able to "clip coupon". Might not be available to everyone, but I was able to see the $63 price again even after order one already yesterday.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank funkmasta

Just to clarify on how to get the best price:
  1. Sign in to your Amazon Business account (free to make).
  2. Go to www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BPSGJN7T/ [amazon.com] for the item. You will not see the coupon on this page.
  3. Add to cart
  4. Check your cart. This is where the $20 coupon will show up. Clip it.
  5. Checkout. Add code 16MT3000 during checkout.
  6. Total should be 63.xx before tax.
Not sure how to pin this for people, but thanks to whoever identified it was cheaper on the business site.

Serious question, if the hotel Wi-Fi is not great, how will you get Internet with this router? Aren't you connecting to the hotel Wi-Fi with this router anyways?
In short - usually it is a bad/weak signal that comes from your public Wi-Fi in this case this little guy can help strengthen the signal and improve your overall internet connection. If the internet isn't good in the first place then of course the router won't be able to make it better or faster.

Yes, you could. Do you want the TV to be the only thing doing that?

1) Set up a VPN server at your house.
2) Configure this router as a VPN CLIENT, and have it broadcast its own wifi.
3) Connect this to your friend's network. (Wifi or wired doesn't matter, but wired will be better.)
4) Connect the TV to this.

This will send all TV traffic, through the VPN, to your home. Everything the TV does will look like it's coming from your house.

That said, your friend may lose the ability to use Airplay or other local casting options, because the TV will be separate from the rest of HIS network. And your internet will work harder, because for him to watch a 5mbps video, your home internet will have to both download and re-upload that same stream, so 5mbps each way at your home router.

Yes. Worst case, you could set up a VPN server at home and connect to that from abroad.

Thank you. I was trying to figure out what the point of having this was. In my earlier travels I encountered ethernet ports in many hotels, but rarely of late, so didn't see much point in adding another wifi network to an existing (hotel) network for a 10x10 room. Having the built-in VPN seems like the biggest benefit.
Another advantage is one doesn't have to repeatedly set up all one's various devices. My mobile, laptop, Roku stick etc only connects to my GL.inert device. So I never have to change their settings.

whats the difference between this vs just bringing your home router with you, other than that home routers are a bit bigger?
I'm not sure if the ability to use Wi-Fi as both the WAN and LAN is that common.

Thanks for the info! Could I use this: MT2500 (Brume 2) to be the VPN server?

Whats a good case to hold this and a battery, allowing for the antenna to be extended if possible?
Want to be able to walk around a cruise ship and carry a hotspot with me to share with the wife and kids.

I highly recommend this router, very strong signal. I used it whilst travelling using Nord configured for Wireguard, connecting to the Internet in my brother's flat one floor above mine and configured to not provide Internet unless VPN is running. I managed to work abroad for one week without my company knowing I was out of the country. I was able to configure VPN on the router and still connect to my company's VPN.
I have also used it on a cruise to share the single internet using a portable charger to power it. Again pretty strong signal allowing flexibility.
I had the Mango and the cheaper Beryl before this and this is a worthy upgrade, I paid $20 more when I got mine, but I have zero regrets.

I'm not sure how many hotels use EAP, but I imagine some do. Also pretty common in corporate settings. It's a shame this one doesn't support it. I guess I'm waiting for a deal for the GL-AXT1800 in this price range, which does support EAP.

I looked at that model as well for the same reason and did not like the fact that it requires 5V 4A supply. That exceeds the 5V 3A PD spec, which means that a regular USB PD power supply wont provide enough power and you need a dedicated power supply. I ended up buying the GL-A1300 which draws much less power and can use a PD power supply. It is about 1/2 the wireguard VPN speed of the beryl and 1/3 the wireguard VPN speed of the AXT1800, but it supposedly doesnt overheat either. Will be trying it out and seeing how well it works as a battery powered portable hot spot on a cruise ship.
