This is a great tent. We went camping with 5 friends this summer and when I farted the smell lasted for a solid 3 minutes before vanishing. Excellently wind-proof.

This can be dangerous depending on the size of the site. You always want to try and set up the tents so they remain upwind of any nearby campfires. If you must have a tent downwind of a fire, best to give it a good distance. Embers can ignite a tent pretty quickly. And once one ignites, it can quickly spread to other tents. I experienced this hard way at Roskilde '98 in Copenhagen. Thankfully no one was hurt, but there were over a dozen tents that completely burnt up in less than a couple minutes.

No experience with this tent in particular, but it is NOT Instant assembly. Instant is the only way I camp currently with small kids because I just don't have the time to set up camp with them running around. I prefer traditional poles because the instant assemblies are usually more prone to breaking, more expensive, and significantly heavier. The trade off is ease of setting up. That said, based on the shape of this tent, it seems like it would be fairly easy to assemble as it says it is color coded. You have to be more careful with the tents that have overhangs and added items as those will add time and confusion, but you should always open and set it up before taking it camping anyway to familiarize yourself with it AND make sure it isn't ripped. So many people without experience also forget that tents are never actually meant for the number of people they say. 9 kids shoulder to shoulder might fit in this. I like sizes like this for a family because you have enough room for 4 people AND you can stand up in it. There is nothing worse than trying to get dressed on a rainy day in a tent that's only giving you 2-3' of space to move.

There is no reason to buy tents like these anymore. You just buy a 10x10 canopy and the company that make the tents usually have camp tent inserts. Its so much easier.

So much of the tent is not covered by the rain fly. Seems less than ideal if you're doing longer camps with any risk of inclement weather.

Nice price for a very spacious tent, but surprised that at this price Coleman did not include their amazing (patented) "hinged" door. Makes all the difference for easy entry/exit and keeps the bugs out even without zipping it shut, also made easier by the "hinge" frame supporting the door "canvas".

Now that we're older, no more backpacking for us - we only car camp and sleep on cots when camping. Vertical wall tents like this one, even though not as wind resistant, make cot-sleeping super spacious.

Be sure to do a test setup prior to a trip - we found a defective pole on recently bought tent. Coleman (actually brand-collector Newell now owns them as they do, Rubbermaid) Customer Support was excellent, we uploaded photos of the defective pole and Amazon invoice while still on the phone and they took care of the problem.

Also, even with a brand new tent, apply NikWax UV/water protection during that test setup. $20/bottle that can do a large tent or buy the concentrate for $30-40 that makes up to 7 bottles. And if you're really concerned about water, apply seam sealer as well.

Two observations, from someone who has been using both dome and vertical wall tents for several decades - vertical wall tents tend to shed water better, assuming they have tight, good rake on the rain fly. But are less wind resistant. Really watch out for dome tents that do not have generous rain flies like some of Coleman's cheaper dome tents.

But in all cases, apply NikWax UV/waterproofing to the rain fly and exposed tent surfaces.

Thanks for adding more info. We have the tents set far from the fire in a pit, away from the smoke and always put it out before calling it a night.
