Streamlight is a high-end brand
Really high quality- I've beat their flashlights up and they keep on ticking
I think they made their name in tactical (as you thought - can be niche)

The phrase "intrinsically safe" has a very specific meaning in this context.

The short version is this light is designed not to produce any kind of arc or spark (or enough heat) to cause ignition in areas where there might be flamable gas or dust.

You can see more details about what all this means here:

https://www.emerson.com/documents...123358.pdf

That's how you can decode a bunch of this stuff: Class I, II, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, D, E, F, G; Class III; Class 1, Zone 0, Group IIC, Exia; T-Code: T4, MSHA Permissible Flashlight, Approval No. 20-A190001-0. Tested for Intrinsic Safety in Methane-Air mixtures only.

It also has a lifetime warranty.

tl;dr version: This is a light for designed industrial use to keep you from blowing yourself up in flammable environments.

Streamlight is not the best as many here claim. But they are affordable and extremely reliable, think Toyota. In weapon lights they're considered entry-level. Other brands to consider, but pricier:
Black Diamond, Surefire, Cloud Defensive, Modlite

None of you realize what this is for apparently.

Nine left in stock after my order confirmed.

Good luck.
Can I use it to read books in bed?

To second this: streamlight is not your average Amazon china b/s this is the Rolex of flashlights. There are better than Rolex, there are worse than rolex, and they all do the same thing, sure... this is a high end product.

Experience: bought a Strion and can't live without it to the point I bought a second for when one dies...

edit: also have an abused Stinger Switchblade old enough to get a driver's license... they only came out 6 years ago but you get the idea 😅
I don't know... My rolexes just don't produce that many lumens. The Toyota referenced in this thread is brighter but makes my neck tired when mounted on my head.

Good deal. I was going to get a Pelican headlamp with almost the same specs for $35 but jumped on this instead. Thanks, OP!

Streamlight was the go-to brand for every law enforcement agency 25 years ago post "mag-light" era. Their smaller "stinger" models set the pace after that 20 years ago when I left that career. While I haven't followed them in recent years, I still have my extremely solid full length streamlight (20C think? Full length old school rechargeable flashlight) It's well used, has been used on many raids and tactical engagements, might have been used to legally avoid risky situations as a blunt force weapon, and remains in a sturdy charger next to my work bench. While I can't speak to recent products, I can speak to the history of the brand. They were the only ones to be trusted for performance and reliability when my life was on the line. I hope they're still the same company today.

There was a post-Mag Light era? Man, I need to update my ideas on flashlights.

I'm tempted to buy this because it does use AAA batteries. I have so many of those laying around and it seems hardly anything uses them anymore.
The only caveat is you have to use 3 AAA batteries. That sounds pretty heavy and I'm wondering how long will they last.

Exactly. This is why I bought one for a family member who oversees gas line installations. And it accommodates a hard hat.

I am very surprise that these are not rechargeable being an excellent brand in the market.
There are pros and cons to rechargeable. But for my purposes, I migrate toward rechargeable. Now, my oldest operating LED headlamp (25 years) uses batteries.
