Same. I love it. Purchased from Atlantic Knife Company in July for $48. I didn't need it but I just couldn't say no to the deal.

This deal is arguably better, with every S35V scale/blade and Damascus variants included at the same price, sold by manufacturer and fulfilled by Amazon. If I didn't have one clipped to my pocket I'd be clicking Buy Now without blinking.

In case anyone is wondering, you buy the Damascus variant for the looks, not for the steel quality. According to a review [amazon.com], the Damascus is a compound of 10Cr15CoMoV and 9Cr18MoV. Likewise, note the carbon fiber scales aren't solid carbon fiber: "Handle Material Twill Carbon Fiber Overlay On Black G10."

Damascus variants of any knife are typically more expensive, so this is (compared to usual price or sale history) the slicker deal. The S35V versions have hit this price point numerous times, but I've never seen the Damascus version go this low.

However...

The S35V version will perform better. It is arguably one of the very best steels for an EDC folding knife. I really love the micarta handle, too. I prefer the feel over the G-10 on my Griptilian.

You could be…

- at a baby shower, helping out with the balloon arch and now you gotta cut a string. You can either leave your post, find a pair of scissor, cut or just reach into your pocket and whip out your blade

- at dinner and your kid is complaining about how the straw is too long. Whip out the blade and shorten that stick

- just received an Amazon package and couldn't wait to take it into the house to open it. Whip out the blade and open it up on the spot

- you and your partner is about to share a dessert. You asked the cashier for a knife and she handed you a fork. Whip out your blade, clean it with napkin, then slice the dessert down the middle (this just happened yesterday actually)

If you're planning on opening boxes only, the folding utility knives are great options. I went with a pocket knife because a wise man once said, never go anywhere without a knife. You gotta be careful if you go to places with metal detectors

OP appears to be missing the link for the Damascus version: https://www.amazon.com/Civivi-Pin...08MW3GBM1/

This is the regular price no? The list price of $83.30 is the same as the wood + Damascus blade. Other plain blade and Micarta also cost the same as non-discounted price.

The black G10 handle with Damascus blade for the same price of $49.

Legitimately what do you guys use pocket knives like this for? For some reason I want to get a decent pocket knife the only thing I could ever possibly think of using it for is opening boxes from Amazon which doesn't seem like the best use for a knife.

Are they only really useful if you like go hunting or camping and shit or if you live in a sketchy area?
You can punch the amazon tape easily.
You can't punch an apple, a trout, or a mugger as easily.

This is my workhorse knife when camping (S35VN). Heavy enough to chop/hack at things, but slicey enough to cut with low effort. Great steel, great build quality, easy to open/close, and feels great in the hand.

Some people already have their minds made up about "Chinese knives", but this is a quality knife in great steel at a very good price. Civivi offers a lot of knife for the money.

I know it's not the same knife, but I have an Elementum as an every day. Solid lockup, smooth action, decent edge retention (D2), carries well. Only beef is the pocket clip, which has caught and bent open on a few occasions. I've read that the ergos on the Pintail are better.
I definitely second this. I have an Elementum too. I loved it but sadly retired it from EDC due to the terrible pocket clip. It would not stay clipped, and I was afraid of my kids picking it up from the sofa or wherever. If they addressed the clip this knife would be incredible.

For me, it is mostly workplace. I am an electrician, and we are always cutting rope or insulation on the wire. There are many other things we use it for, too, but that's the most common.

FYI, for those that want the Micarta handle and Damascus blade, here's another option. Civivi Imperium at BladeHQ for $55 plus shipping. It's a longer blade though (3.5").

It's mainly that they're cool to own, collect, and fiddle with. Occasionally they come in handy too. This might help you understand.

Got mine too. I've never even thought about the handle on a knife before, but this is my first micarta handle and it feels like rough cardboard. I'm not sure I like it. Does it last? It feels like it'll disintegrate right away.
No it will wear in like a good pair of denim jeans. There's epoxy mixed into the fabric so it's stronger too. Soak in your hair oils and have it's own version of a petina. I have half a dozen different feels of Micarta from civivi too tho, each models seems to be sourced differently. This isn't as nice as my Chevalier, about like my odium, better than my Riffle

I just got this in the mail along with the Kizer Cormorant FP deal. I must say I'm enjoying the cormorant way more. I'm liking the blade profile, handle and fit/finish better but most of all the flipping action is much smoother. The liner lock on the civivi is probably more durable but button lock should handle all edc needs. Get both of you can but if you're not a knife hoarder or can only afford one, consider the Kizer for $10 more.

I'm just getting into this EDC knife subculture thing, so please pardon my ignorance, but where are you finding the Kizer Cormorant for $10 more? I'm seeing well over $100 for the Kizer. Am I looking at the wrong thing?

Returned the Pintail today. Was not impressed. Like my Baklash much more. Didn't like that the blade didn't have S35VN marked anywhere on the blade. The action on my Baklash and other Civivis is much better. Like the Kizer Cormorant I ordered much better than the Pintail.
