I bought a Digital to Analog converter from Monoprice for $13. [monoprice.com]
You need a good long TOSlink optical cable; 35 foot $10 at Monoprice [monoprice.com]. I recommend 35ft just so you can hide the sub basically anywhere in the room.
Then use RCA wire that comes with the subwoofer to connect the converter to the sub. I got an active low profile 12" sub from Monoprice [monoprice.com] as well on sale for around $124 when it was on sale a couple of weeks ago.
Now, the only remaining issue is that the TV volume control doesn't adjust the Toslink output volume to make sub go up or down in volume to match, since TV's toslink is just sending out a set signal...so I need to see if I can find a workaround. Right now, I just watch it a fixed volume level since it's an extra tv room, so if I want it louder, I could just manually adjust the sub itself. I really don't want a soundbar because the TV's atmos effect works very well in this 15x15 room, but if it's your primary TV, then this TOS workaround may not be ideal...then a soundbar or surround speakers with AVR may be necessary.
I bought it on a prior deal and super happy with it so far
But what I did was I price match the TV from Costco to Bestbuy. I tried more than 30 times to talk to the representative to get me price matched through online chat but didn't work until I decided to go to the store and the employee just go ahead and gave me one. Try it. Who knows it works for you guys!
