Lots of misinformation in this thread. I have 2 of these bikes.

1) SUPER easy to assemble. All the nuts/bolts are pre-installed. You loosen and install.
2) The bike is very well-built. Quality parts including metal fenders and solid wheels.
3) There's nothing to break on the bike's handle bars and there's no way to install BMX style bars on this bike. To that poster I say post a picture of the break because that's a load of BS.
4) The bike is locked at 15mph as per European rules. Unlocking the bike is easy but not using the directions that were shared earlier…..those are wrong. See below.
5) The bike will hit 26-29mph depending on your weight.
6) Li batteries are not the problem with fires. Charging damaged batteries is. Also what you think you know about charging batteries is wrong.
- Charge your Li batteries regularly. Don't let them get to 10% or less.
- Once every 30 charges, purposely take the battery to failure and then recharge fully to avoid charge-memory.

What the bike does need is a suspension seat. I recommend the SunTour SR NCX. $50 on AliExpress.

Buyer beware I own this bike the handle bars rod broke toward the bottom thin cast aluminum welded bad. Installed BMX style handle bars. Seen on Facebook front fender cause for failure people to wreak. Had trouble but worked the bugs out now it a decent bike for the money.

Where did you get that nice mirror?
Amazon, it's a Meachow mirror. i use them on all of my bikes. There are a few different versions, but i like the one i'm linking below because it's the best of the ones i have tried. The other versions are made "lighter" by having the middle cut out, i prefer this one, it is sturdier and wobbles less when going 20mph or more. The mirror isn't perfect, after it gets bumped a few times by door jams or something else it becomes loose and you will have to retighten it, but no big deal just keep the allen key on the bike. The mirror is by far my favorite and most used bike accessory besides the bell and my drink holder, so it's #3 most important. #4 is bluetooth speaker. I think the only kind of mirror that would be better is a motorcycle mirror but i havent tried that yet, but that is what i would want to try next.

Anyone know if the rack can be upgraded? Want to carry my kid but he's about 70 lbs
I am not sure if i would trust this bike to carry a kid unless you change out the entire brake system. If you are carrying a kid i would recommend a better bike like Lectric xp or maybe Rad. The brakes on this are by far the worst thing about it, plus the weight, it's already too heavy and the brakes are barely good enough. I use my bike to haul groceries and have a milk crate on the back using the provided rack, i feel like it's very sturdy but don't know the weight limit. But once you get the added weight (i weight 200lbs) and close to max bike weight, it's pretty unwieldy. Not sure if i would risk my own life and another's life with this bike is what i'm saying.

What's the max weight limit for this bike? Doesn't this bike look very similar to a lectric?

The lack of hydraulic brakes on the engwe (present on the Lectric) is reason enough to consider paying the premium with Lectric. While I haven't ridden a Lectric myself, I would guess the build quality is better than the Engwe based on video reviews I've seen. I've had the Engwe and would not dare ride with a child on it. The brakes are barely up to par for a single adult rider, let alone with an additional child

Hydraulic brakes are under $50 on Amazon and super easy to install. I don't feel like this bike needs them, however they do make braking easier. You have to think about how and where you ride. Where I ride this bike (trails and small cities) I'm not doing a lot of panic braking. If you ride big cities your needs may be different.

As for carrying a rider I would not recommend that with this bike. There are better bikes out there that are purpose-built for this. They do cost considerably more…..well over $1,200. In my opinion to carry a rider you need a minimum of:

- 1000w motor with 85nm of torque to be able to carry rider plus passenger
- 48v/20a battery or better to ensure you have range
- Integrated frame rack and not a bolt-on for structural integrity
- Hydraulic brakes to stop what will likely be close to 300# of people + 75# bike.

Letric has a great one, but again, double the price of this bike.

20 miles round trip. Pedal assist 1 goes 6mph, pedal assist 2 is 8mph to 10mph. Level 3 is 12mph and my bike gets loud at over 10 mph, might be the motor or the rotors rubbing maybe.

I am in love with biking and live in a beautiful part of the world, Northern Virginia and I'm lucky the bike trail I use is completely in nature and I used to ride quickly to work, now I take things slow and listen to music and watch the wild plants grow in various seasons and even stop and take photos and videos and explore the various plants, edible berries and beautiful flowers. So I like to ride slow, 8mph is a good speed to be able to see everything.

The bike computer is programmable but I haven't messed with it much.
Wow I live closeby but I was told NOVA is kinda ghetto, expensive, and mostly just suburban houses and not much tech, not much development, same with certain parts of Maryland. I have visited nearby areas in VA and I think it is the best state, but didnt realize even NOVA was good

For some bike trailers: I got this, as it was harder than expected to find an adapter supported the heavy weight:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BXKKQYJC/

-I'll also note I get about 15-20 miles on a charge, full assist all the time.

What kind of maintenance do you guys do on this bike, and how often? Are you regularly rinsing off the bike, tightening screws, and oiling the chain?

Also if anyone knows, how hard is it to fold the bike down - and would it be likely to fit, when folded, in the back of a Toyota Corolla sedan?

I personally think Virginia is the best state to live in, best overall weather with no major catastrophic weather events like earthquakes or hurricanes, very little flooding and little snow now. Gets a bit hot and humid but that's okay, wish colder winters were normal.

Nova is very expensive but I grew up here and certain areas of it are absolutely beautiful and very safe. My boss leaves his front door unlocked over 50 years. North of route 7 is almost no crime, it's very expensive to live here yes, that's the biggest issue. It's like New York city

I actually did an experiment, I tried riding as long as I could have without having to maintain anything, as in pay attention to the tire pressure and keeping it clean. I kept the tire pressure low around 14psi and for 2000 miles not once did it lose any air or need to be refilled. Brake pads were getting spongy at 2k, I swapped out the brake pads, they looked actually pretty decently thick and could have kept using maybe. I think I will try to clean the rotor more. My previous electric bike I would have to maintain much more since I road on paved roads with cars and the oil and rain would make the bike very grimey and dirty, now my new bike route goes through the woods instead and I just deal with dirt, not a big issue at all.

Did you lube the chain?

Your pads probably got dirt in them. My MTBs need new pads before they are worn out. Typically, it's the dirt getting into the pad.

I lost you on "charge-memory". That's not a thing with lithium...

I did not lube the chain, but I just got 2k miles and I will go home today and clean the chain and lube it. In the past I would have to clean my chain every 100 or 200 miles. I will also check every bolt and nut and make sure everything is tight and do a bike wash.

Yeah the brake pad thickness seemed reasonable but it was 2k miles so I just replaced since I don't know how to clean pads. My biggest issue with the bike is trying to align the brake calipers so they are not rubbing the rotor. I feel like the rotors are straight but when I loosen the brakes and try to align the brakes, the inside pad is too close to the brake and creates a run noise over 12mph. The noise mostly goes away if I loosen the brake lever adjuster.
