Don't fall for the 36 month crap.

I did the credit for 36 months crap with T-Mobile 2 years ago during covid…they asked me to mail my old phones and then they said all were cracked…so I wouldnt get any credit ..and they couldn't return my old phones..I went the Twitter/Facebook route complaining about the company and someone reached out and provided all credit in one bill. Never again I am falling for the "36 month" no contract contract.
Please share how / where you were able to get a reply? I'm in a similar spot and they won't help me. Thanks!

Hypothetical scenario:

Let's say you're in a plan that has the 36 month bill credits and owe $800 or less on the outstanding phone balance.

Port number over to T-Mobile and get the "keep and switch" promo which gives you up to $800 to pay off your old phone from the other carrier

You're now on T-Mobile with no device payments. Wait "a period of time" and port back to carrier of choice to get the new customer promos

If you're grandfathered into any plans you'll automatically lose them once you port to T-Mobile. You've have to perform basic arithmetic to see if the porting back plans are worth it.

You have to sign up for the new Go5G plan which cost more than the Magenta. So if you are on Magenta plan you don't get this promotion. So, not better for existing customers.
Yup. Ill stick with my Note9 and Magenta after reading the fine print...

How does the "free after 36 month bill credit work?"

Do you pay up-front then they credit you the cost over 36 months? That's not free, you're still loaning them money by paying the full cost and then they pay you back in installments.

Do you pay monthly on 0% APR and it lasts 36 months? That's not free, either as you're paying for the cost over a long period. If that's considered free, then my car is free because I got it at 0% APR over 60 months.

You are technically correct. It's not binding.. however, the incompetence (probably wilful) of Verizon, Tmo, ATT and dealing with early termination, calculating the pay off amount is nothing short of a true nightmare, and that's assuming they get it right the first time. Highly likely there IS a mistake and too likely their error impacts your credit rating and now you're wasting days/weeks trying to fix it. Your own experience trying to sign up is simply unacceptable; imagine now when they have you as a customer when you trying to cancel and need to reference a deal YEARS ago! The companies count on many not bothering and they make out either way on your wallet.

Had a much less complicated problem with Tmob that didn't involve any trade ins, it was entirely THEIR mistake, out of the blue, and had collections chasing me for months. Literally after SIX months and writing to their corporate offices, was it finally fixed. Tmob offered me $500 bill credit. Ofc I accepted and once it ran through, it was the last time I will ever deal with these shenanigans. Prepaid all the way, so so much easier, CHEAPER, and same service. If any of you haven't tried it, you don't know what you're missing and your wallet thanks you.

In fact, even if prepaid offered no savings, I'd still prefer it. The fact that they are literally a fraction of these post-paid "legacy" plans, is pure brilliance on their part.
Please share how you got this corrected? I am having a similar problem, been fighting with tmo for like 1.5 years and not getting a resolution Frown thanks. Oh, and which prepaid service do you recommend?

Typically, you'll see the cost of the phone on your plan. They break the balance up over 36-mo., then credit you the same amount each month. TMobile calls it EIP (equipment installment plan).

For example if the phone you choose costs $25/mo, they'll credit your account $25/mo essentially paying off the phone for you, over a 36-mo period.

However, if you pay the phone off early the credits stop and then you're out of pocket for the pay off amount. Its the carriers way to ensure they have a customer paying monthly for the term of the agreement. (contract)

End result is neither of your scenarios haha

You pay tax up front and finance the rest using credits given to you each month for 36 months

36 months. Enough said.
36 sucks but if you consider to keep the DPP active for 24 months that's still 553/667 credit for existing / new plus the 100/250$ shop card. That's not bad if you're planning to stay with verizon.

Unfortunately for me it doesn't seem they'll match for existing business customers - but seems new business customers get a very similar offer (1000 credit + 200 additional verizon credit)

Mint service is identical to Tmob. No throttling either and I'm pushing 40gb monthly on one line.

PM me for the other question

Just mailed my 2016 old iPhone SE in this morning. Got $830 credit towards my Son's iPhone 15 Pro.

I'll happily take the credits. Hell, even if I upgrade him in two years, the credit is worth it! The 8yr old iPhone is almost worthless LOL
Did you start the upgrade process from your local Costco store? Did they tell you on spot that you qualify for the $830 credit?

I have iPhone se 2020 and planning to upgrade. Any insight would be appreciated.
